They rwduce the flow of water a bit, but they work.

I'm pleased with this purchase. I needed to replace the MWF water filter in the GE fridge where I'm renting. This filter fits for a fraction of the cost of the original. It's shorter than the original filter so it actually takes up less space in the corner of the top shelf than the MWF filter. It's pretty easy to install, although the instructions said counterclockwise when it actually screwed in clockwise for me. It also took a little twisting to get it to attach to the waterline. You'll know it's attached when you hear the water swishing into the filter. Then you have to pour water through the fridge door until all the air pockets are gone. Instructions recommend one to two gallons, and that was on target. Took me one gallon. Finally, there are the instructions to shut off that red 'change filter' light. This might seem like a minor annoyance if you know that the filter is working, but if you're renting and changing that filter is a term of your lease, that red light needs to come off. The instructions said to hold the reset button for 3 seconds. Those are the same instructions on the front of the fridge but that really only works if you're replacing it with the MWF filter. For an aftermarket filter, it takes 8 to 10 seconds (thank you good internet people who left that information on a message board). I held the button for 8 seconds and it worked. The water looks and tastes clean and the water pressure is as good as with the MWF filter.
