Morse MHS30 Bi-Metal Hole Saw, 1-7/8" Diameter, 1 Piece

This Morse bi-metal hole saw performed well and delivered clean, consistent cuts. The construction feels sturdy and durable, and it handled the project I purchased it for without any issues. The teeth were sharp right out of the package and cut efficiently through the material without excessive vibration or binding. I also appreciated that it produced a clean hole with minimal cleanup required afterward. The bi-metal design gives it a solid feel and seems built to withstand repeated use. It paired easily with the appropriate arbor and remained secure throughout the cutting process. Overall, this is a reliable hole saw that performs as expected and feels like a quality tool. I bought a Morse 2” hole saw and it is beautifully finished in a perfect circle with an accurate diameter. It is exactly what I needed. I can’t even see the weld seems. I previously purchased a large set of the highly regarded Milwaukee hole saws but I have been disappointed with many of them because they are poorly made. They have crooked weld seems and slightly oval shapes, rather than circles, resulting in oversized diameter cuts. I needed to make some good quality 2 inch holes, but since my Milwaukee set is garbage I had to try this hole saw from Morse and I am happy to report that it produces a good quality cut. The 2” Morse hole saw has works with universal arbors that have a 5/8" x 18 thread size. The Milwaukee arbor p/n 49-56-9100 is the larger arbor in my set and it works well on the Morse 2”. If you have a different hole saws size just check the threads on it and get an arbor with the same threads, as there are a few different standard sizes of arbors.

These cut through schedule 40 2 3/8 oil field pipe. Just make sure you use a solid drill. I connected these to a hole jig (purchased here on amazon) made a clean saddle cut. I didn’t use this for all my cuts but did use it for special cuts like angles and areas where the cut had to be precise before welding. Worked great for the money and I was able to cut about 6 of these pipes before I started to notice it getting dull. I just wish it was a little longer. It wouldn’t go all the way through a 2 3/8 pipe. I had to disconnect my jig from the post and spin it around (because I used it with my posts already concreted in the ground - for correct height purposes) I normally cut saddles with my torch. Anyways...the bit cut well it just needs to be deeper/longer.

Over the years I've alternated mostly between Starrett and Morse with some Lenox mixed in. Until recently I preferred the Starrett saws and those are still good but overall I think I'll keep getting the Morse saws as needed. Surprisingly they are still made in the USA (Starrett moved theirs to their plant in Brazil some time ago where they have had their hacksaw blades made for years - quality products from that plant). I needed an oddball 2-7/16" saw for a special project and couldn't use a fly cutter, and Morse was the only one available in any brand that I could find. It's sold as 62mm but that's nearly spot on with the 2-7/16". I'm curious as to why they have it available and choose to market it as metric...? Anyway, great saw. The teeth on the Morse saws do vary a little in quality (consistency, rather) but they are durable and I've never had one chip or separate. The extra depth and large plug cutouts are appreciated. UPDATE: I've bought several more sizes of these since the pricing has been great and I decided to fill out the collection with some 1/16ths and such. So far, each one has been well made with great weld lines and threads, sharp and properly set teeth. Had the recent misfortune of needing to drill a bunch of 1-13/16 holes in thin stainless and this saw did just great, better than I recall my Starrett doing in similar material. These blow the socks off of the joke saws that Milwaukee has these days and are better than the Dewalt/B&D/Craftsman in the box stores. Klein quality has gone down and that leaves Morse, Starrett and Lenox as solid choices for bimetal saws. If you're in the market for a kit, do a search here for the Morse kits...same saws, usually much better value than the other top brand kits, and nice cases. Sounds like a salesman now...these are just great tools.

I know the value of a good quality hole saw and have many brand name cutters in my tool box. But occasionally, I'll run across a job that requires a saw size that I don't have on hand. When that situation arises I hesitate to spend a fortune on a saw I'll likely only use a few times. Looking for value and quality I did a lot of review research and came across the Morse Bimetal brand. Since then I have purchased several of these saws in various sizes and none have disappointed. They are extremally sharp, display excellent build quality and with reasonable care hold a good edge even after repeated use. I have used them for wood, steel and plastics with good results every time. Of course, applying good tool use practices for all applications and liberal cutting oil for steel cuts is always in order. If I have one negative comment its that for softer material the saw can be very aggressive. In those situations, I find that running the saw backwards can eliminate the "biting" and still provide a good outcome.

Regarding use in steel: This is vastly superior to the hole saws sold by Lenox. They are not as good as the new Milwaukee Hole Saws (the hole dozer line) but they do have incredible lifespan in mild steel compared to just about any other hole saw I've used (once again only excluding the new hole dozer line). For the price they are a heck of a deal. Depends on if you need to make just a few holes in steel (this is by far the best choice) or a large number of holes. The holes were in a truck frame rail and 7/8" in diameter. I would get two to three holes per the MK hole saw and about seven with the Milwaukee. The Lenox line of hole saws could not make even 1. This is running coolant and a coordless drill. Hope that helps someone make a choice.

It worked okay but not great. Gets hot fast which will dull saw quick.
