Nice gate overall, but there are a couple of cons (mainly for my personal situation)
I bought this gate with a dual purpose in mind: 1) to keep my dogs out of our carpeted family room but allow them to roam the rest of the first floor when we're home, and 2) to keep them confined to the kitchen when we're out. The tricky part is that our front hallway opens into the family room/eat-in kitchen combo which is separated by a pony wall. This half-wall is at an angle to both adjacent walls, making it impossible to attach a pressure-mounted gate in either opening.I thought this gate would be a good solution for our problem because of its large size and the fact that it's freestanding. But it hasn't worked out as well as I'd hoped. This isn't a problem with the gate itself - just little old me making the wrong choice for my particular needs. When we want to get into the family room, we either have to move the gate - which is bulky and cumbersome - out of the way, or we have to step over it, which gets to be a hassle after a while. And pivoting the gate about 75 degrees from our family room opening to our kitchen opening requires a little bit of careful navigation because the "feet" and sides stick out so much, so I don't find the gate as portable as I'd hoped it would be.A word to the wise: The feet that hold this gate upright are MURDER on bare toes!! We moved the gate over to one side to let the dogs into the family room on Christmas day, and I nearly broke a toe when I accidentally kicked the dang thing. :( Totally USER error, and a lesson painfully learned! And speaking of kicking the dang thing, here's another word of warning: if you DON'T fold the sides in flat when you move this gate out of the way, SOMEONE is gonna either kick one of the feet or walk right into one of the sides (I've had family and guests do both and we've only had this gate a month!). This puts a lot of strain on those little hinges, and ours are loose already. Again, NOT a con for the gate itself, just a recommendation to other users...FOLD the sides in when the gate is not in use. Your toes will thank you (and so will the hinges)!!! :)PROS:On the plus side, the gate looks very nice and is made of solid wood. It took just a few minutes to put it together and get it in place. I really like the look of the black metal inserts against the stained wood, and when I find a better solution for my weird family room/kitchen arrangement, I will gladly use this gate in another area of the house where it won't need to be moved or stepped over nearly as much.Overall, this is a good gate, particularly if you're going to set-it-and-forget-it in a spot where those evil little support feet are safely tucked up against a wall and out of the way of your tender tootsies!

Functional and easy to assemble but questionable build quality due to use of glue at critical joints
I'm quite disappointed to be writing a less than 5-star review because during my research this was the only gate that I found that actually met my needs.I was looking for a pet gate that I could place at the bottom of the stairs. The other gates I found either required a semi-permanent installation or using pressure to mount the gates between two walls. Unfortunately due to the position of the railings on my stairs those gates don't fit well. This gate has side panels that block access to the stairs without the gate itself having to be mounted on the first step. There's a little latch on each of the side panel that lets you fold a panel in so that you don't have to move or step over the gate and can still leave it in place.I encountered two problems with these side panels and latches. The first is that the latch has some gave and so it's easy to push the panel in a little bit and try to squeeze by. This becomes an important consideration because the width of the gate can only be adjusted in fixed increments and so if the gate itself is not at least as wide if not wider than the stairs it's easy for a larger dog to push past the gate. The other, and more serious problem is that the side panels are attached to the wood piece with the latch using glue and two dowels. It took about two months for the glue to fail on my gate and for the gate to become useless because the side panel could be pushed even when the panel is latched.Support from Richell was great and I'm now expecting a replacement panel but realizing that parts of the gate were just held together with glue tremendously reduces my confidence in this gate. One way to fix this problem is to use a snap tie at the top and bottom of both panels to reinforce the joints that are just glued together. But since this is not a cheap gate and caters to the higher-end of the market, it's not something that a buyer should be expected to do.

I love this gate.
So, I have two Scottish Terriers, and they can get around/over/under anything. After trying a variety of gate/furniture combinations to block a wide doorway, i purchased this thinking that if it didn't do the trick, at least we could use it to keep them out of the kitchen when we're cooking. But it has worked perfectly. The feet are wide enough that the dogs don't have enough leverage to knock it over, and the way we have it placed the feet also keep it from turning sideways in the doorway (as a pressure-mounted gate can if a 20-lb dog hurls himself at it for several hours. or even minutes). Another thing that i think deters the dogs is that the metal parts of the gate rattle a little bit when you move it. The sound annoyed me at first, but the unintended benefit is that the sound freaks out the dogs a little so they leave it alone. One thing to be aware of is that while it is adjustable, it's not designed to be constantly changing the width on the fly - you need a screwdriver to remove all four screws and then tighten it again in the new setting. And it is a little awkward to move - the sides fold in, but the feet are easy to trip over depending on where you have the gate placed. Not a problem for us, but something to be aware of.On the plus side, compared to the other gates I have (why is it that i have more gates for the dogs than i ever had for my baby?), it looks like a piece of furniture and fits in well with our decor, and since it's not pressure-set, it doesn't leave marks on the walls (though we did put felt circles on the sides where it has the potential to scratch when we move it around).I'm sure that a taller dog could leap this in a single bound (i'm looking at you, border collies), but this is absolutely perfect for our stubborn terriers. I'm considering a second one to get rid of the ugly plastic gates for good!

Sturdy and adjustable
I use this gate everywhere in my house and on the porch. Easy adjustment to most openings. I have 4 large dogs and they can’t knock it down. It’s not very high, so not meant for a dog that will jump a fence. Mine are too lazy for that nonsense:) I use the gate in the kitchen, to cover stairway, on the porch, many uses!

Disappointing and expensive
Wish I had read the reviews. It looks really good but lasted us 2 weeks before our 3 month old dog figured out how to climb it, push it aside and escape within seconds. Expensive 2 week failure. Only buy for very small dogs.
