The Curse Of Oak Island: Season 2 [DVD]

At the end of the day what makes a great story is people you can relate to
The thing that fascinates me is this, Oak Island is more a story about the human spirit more than buried treasure. It's about family, the pursuit of something greater than ourselves, and the hope and desire that one day all of this hard work will pay off in the end. At the end of the day this show isn't about whether or not they find a billion dollars worth of treasure at the bottom of 10 X. At the end of the day it is about what your dream is and the people that you surround yourself with while pursuing that dream. I find myself remaining skeptical that they will ever find tangible proof, yet loving the hidden history and the relationship between these brothers and their team. At the end of the day what makes a great story is people you can relate to, a mission that many find impossible, and most importantly of all the pursuit. After all that is what drives all of the greatest discoveries in human history.

Still havent found the Big Treasure yet!
my wife's coworkers have been discussing this show at work. She had no idea what it was so we ordered a couple seasons. This 2nd season is a great follow up to the short intro season. I enjoy watching the brothers with their sibling love and rivalry. My only thoughts when I watch though are always pessimistic, because when they actually find the main treasure worth billions and billions, I feel it would make international headlines and we would all hear about it before the History channel can make a show about it. So knowing there are more seasons after this one, we all know the main treasure has not been found yet.

Immediately hooked!
Oh my lands! I watched the first season in one night and was hooked! I immediately bought the second season and it took me three nights to get through it. I will be starting the third season soon, I can not wait to see what more they dig up! This show has the perfect mix of modern technology, American history, world history, and conspiracy theories for me. The ramifications of what they find on Oak Island could be extremely significant in rewriting some of what we know about American history. I recommend this show without reservation.Disclaimer, I have not seen the third season so I am reviewing this with some ignorance of how this ends. But I loved the second season and can not wait to start the third!

Keeps you interested
Very interesting show with amazing theories and background. Pretty neat to see what they find & the history of the island, as well as the people involved. I'm sure it's somewhat played out, but keeps my attention for the most part. Some things seemed to be repeated time and again, like the stories. Some parts really keep you on your toes, especially when they are diving in the hole. Sometimes you're thinking "find the dang treasure already", and stop drawing it out already, but wouldn't keep me from watching it.

Another Mystery!!
Oak Island strikes again! Episode 4 has disappeared--mysteriously. Was too much revealed in the episode?------I commented on Season 1, lauding the brothers for a scientific approach to finding the treasure and also solving the historic mystery. That approach continues with the second season, and I again applaud this. I liked the clever approach to using the metal detection apparatus in the winter when the swamp was frozen over and could support a stable platform. With this season, a major issue in approaching the money pit also appeared, one that I had not heard of before. In the 1960s a massive and careless excavation was performed that permanently destroyed much of the evidence surrounding the pit. That nonsense accomplished nothing and may have made it impossible to truly determine the historic background to this mystery. Fortunately, the Lagina Brothers and current Canadian environmental laws will prevent this from taking place again. My major criticism, and the reason for 4 stars is some of the way this is handled by the History Channel. While they have done a pretty good job at weaving an interesting drama, some of the story is so obviously scripted and contrived that it is laughable. I suppose this is true for all of the shows in this genre. I am certainly not an expert. But, the "chance" encounters, etc. make me wonder how much of what I am seeing is really what is happening. Even more ridiculous is the repeated return to the "seven deaths" that must occur before the treasure is discovered. Are we supposed to hope that someone dies? Also, what is going to be counted as a death legitimately connected to the treasure? The old man could die of natural causes and be counted for this macabre counting game. The large number in the one family who died of CO poisoning were careless and naive--should these really be related to a supposed curse?I do look forward to each episode, and I do like the professionalism behind recording the incidents. I just wish there weren't such a heavy hand involved in the dramatizations and come-ons to develop an audience.

Wish These Guys Luck Every Week!
I hate to admit it as some of the theories seem beyond fantastical, but I am hopelessly hooked on this show! The Lagina brothers really make the show for me, not only because of the obvious care they have for each other but also because of the kind and respectful way they treat others, even those whose ideas seem to reside on the very periphery of reason. I honestly do not care if the only thing they ever find "down there" is water; their hunt is worth watching!

Very interesting and entertaining.
As much as I love this show, I do not believe that the treasure still exists. I believe that when the guys who first followed the lights were seeing the final removal of the treasure. But it is still fun to watch.

What will they find?
I became hooked on this show during season 1 and couldn't wait for season 2 to come on. Its a fascinating historical adventure and every week you wonder if this will be the week they find something of importance. Now waiting for season 3, which for some reason seems to be delayed. According to their website, the delay is due to the group trying to decide what to do next. Seems strange....thought they decided that at the end of season 2.

One of my favourite programs
I bought this DVD set for my father, who lives in another country. He's never seen the show but I know he'll be fascinated because of the Masonic ties to Oak Island. Once he's as hooked as I am, I'll send him more seasons.
