Easy Setup, Works Well.
I have the 2020 Toyota Yaris.Set up was very easy and worked straight out of the box. Did the upgrade to the firmware with no problems. Assigned both my Partner’s and my phone to the adapter, which works very well. When the adapter fires up, you get to choose which phone to connect to, so we can both use the feature independently.

It works - very well!
I had an earlier similar dongle which was very inconsistent loading and I gave up and reverted to using a wired connection to my iPhone 12. I have now purchased this revised version and it works. It connects quickly and also has the latest firmware update installed. So I can recommend it. I have a Golf 1.6 Match petrol 2016 reg.

Great little gadget but can be temperamental!
I purchased the Carlinkit in order to use Apple Car Play wirelessly in my car. Although it was easy to set up initially and connected without issue, I find it can be temperamental at times!Sometimes when I get in my car, it works immediately and car play shows up on my car stereo. At other times, it takes several minutes to reconnect and I have to keep going into my Bluetooth settings to reconnect it, despite having Bluetooth on 24/7.Although this isn’t a major issue if you’re patient, it can be annoying especially if you’re relying on google maps to get to your destination and it takes over 5 mins to reconnect!Whilst I am happy overall with the carlinkit, it is a little expensive given the teething problems. On occasion, it has caused my car entertainment system to completely crash, and the only way to rectify this issue is to turn off the car engine and reconnect the device.Although this has only happened twice in over 50 journeys, I thought it was worth mentioning in case anyone else has the same issue.

Complete waste of money
It connected fine the first time - was so excited not to have to use the wire anymore. But that was the only time it connected by itself. Had it for about 4 weeks and I had to keep unplugging/plugging back in to get it to work. The light that should have been green was constantly red from box opening to time of death. Tried contacting technical support services for assistance as advised in the seller notes but got no response. Then yesterday, it connected by itself twice and then… crashed so there’s no Bluetooth connection from this device at all and it no longer comes up on my Bluetooth device list and yep you guessed it - it stopped working 3 days after the return period ended. Like I said complete waste of money.

Perfect fit for my Mercedes!
I have an issue with having my phone nearby while I drive. I can only use the Apple Carplay on my CLA if I have a wire and this is stored tightly away in the storage box. Usually if I keep my phone out and still use the carplay, I’ll end up damaging the cables within two weeks. This has been the perfect solution to my problem. It connects super quickly and there’s little to no lag either.Would recommend!

Mercedes’ E400 2019
Easy to set up, only took a minute for the Bluetooth to pair. I’ve set mine up to automatically connect and this takes about 20-30 secs - about the same time it would take to plug the cable into you phone and connect.

Temperamental AF
It has a mind of its own. It keeps getting lost. I only bought it for maps so it’s unreliable and dangerous as it keeps losing where it is and just spins cluelessly until you revert to frantically trying to read the road signs on your 4th trip around the city centre roundabouts like a tourist who’s never been to the city before. GPS, POS is more befitting.

Stable and works well, but shocking security
Rating: 3 stars for the overall product; 0 stars for data security (but there's mitigations)The good: This seems a well-built unit - the positive "click" when you connect the USB-C plug feels especially good - and it seems reliable and pretty consistent but...The bad: It uses 18 year old obsolete encryption protocols and the web management interface can be accessed by anyone because...The downright ugly: The WiFi key is shockingly simple and is a standard key used on every device, meaning that there is effectively no protection against anyone in the vicinity connecting to your phone and / or changing / crashing the unit.(* Edit - performance tests show that the signal strength within the vehicle is quite low and fluctuates a lot, which is lucky in this case, because immediately outside it weakens significantly, so is unlikely to be accessible over even a relatively short distance)This could be such an amazing piece of equipment. It is simplicity itself to use, which is basically controlled by the CarPlay standards, and in the first few days I've tried it out, it seems reliable and consistent. Basically, you plug it in and click a button on your phone to agree the Bluetooth pairing (it will ask if you want to transfer your phone book etc, but this is not necessary, so say "no"; CarPlay will still let you access contacts on your phone, you do NOT need to actually send them to the unit by Bluetooth). Once paired by Bluetooth, the CarPlay bit kicks in; the unit will create a 5GHz WiFi network, pass the credentials across to the phone and you'll connect over WiFi. After that, Bluetooth disconnects and won't be needed again - this is CarPlay at work; BT is used for setup and WiFi is used for all data transfer. But this is where the problem lies; the WiFi Key is a short string of sequential digits; exceptionally weak, and everyone knows it. You might think "it's only a WiFi Password and it's only for this one unit". The problem is that what most people think of as the "password" is really an encryption key to secure everything sent by your phone to the unit - with the simple digits, it's no better than having no key at all.So, the guy in the next car or the house across the street finds the key and connects; he can change settings on the unit or force a software upgrade, which might cause it to stop working with your phone or crash it. The good news is that on a day to day basis, you won't need to manually connect to this WiFi network, and your phone won't receive an IP address, so if anyone else connects, they can't actually connect to your phone. On a day to day basis, the WiFi is just used as a transit between CarPlay on your phone and the CarPlay Plugin on the wired Head Unit in your car, and that's end-to-end encrypted by Apple - if you look at your available wireless networks, you don't even appear to be connected, but you are, using Apple black magic! The problem comes if you manually connect to the WiFi network (say to access the setup page); then you get an IP address and if someone else connects in, they can communicate with your phone. The risk is probably / mostly limited to someone breaking the unit, but it's a shame that in 2022 this product is using WiFi Security which was obsolete in 2004, and uses the weakest possible WiFi Password / Pre-Shared Key. The sad thing is that the problems could be very simple and quick to fix, while still being compatible with all CarPlay-capable iPhones; it would just mean changing 1 setting and using (e.g.) the Serial Number of each unit as a unique WiFi Key. I really hope they fix this quickly, because nothing should be using such weak security in 2022.I would still recommend this product, but it's important to be aware and only ever manually connect to the WiFi if you want to upgrade or change a setting, and then immediately disconnect.

Guter Wireless CarPlay Adapter
