The color of the wheels on my vehicle needed to be changed into something a bit more aesthetically pleasing and VHT came highly recommended. Scuffing the wheels and then a thorough cleaning before spraying gave wonderful adhesion. Allowing the paint to set overnight seemed to work well as the vehicle was then driven w/o any issues with the paint. The paint has stood up to everyday wear and tear though it did get a bit nicked when having new tires installed but that was easily corrected with a few passes of the rattle-can. A quick spray with the hose and this looks as fresh as can be. Could a cheaper can of spray work? I don't want to find out. The VHT did what it was supposed to do in an easy and timely manner.

My ‘01 Sequoia’s aluminum rims were looking kinda rough, I decided to paint ‘em black when i rotated my tires a few months ago. This paint applies easily (2 thin coats) and looks AWESOME! I used one full can for the job. Note..if you want great, long-lasting results, prep is key. I washed wheels thoroughly, roughed up all surfaces to be sprayed with 3M Scotchbright pads, then wiped down with a rag/acetone (gloves), then wiped down with isopropyl alcohol/microfiber towel. I jammed a row of index cards between wheel and tire (wheels off vehicle and laying flat on floor) to shield the tires from the paint. (If you’ve ever tried to tape-mask a tire to spray the rim, you’ll see the advantage). The black satin sheen looks perfect, and no chips flaking after many miles/washes.

I used VHT Paint System - (Primer, Satin Black, and Clear) to restore my motorcycle wheels which had over 100,000 miles on them and looked pretty beat up. I really like working with VHT spray paint and is my first choice for a number of different applications from brake parts to engine blocks. So when I was looking for paint to restore my wheels, I turned to VHT. This paint spray nicely - and dries to the touch in 30 minutes. They suggest two light coats followed by one medium coat allowing 10 minutes in between coats. All coats should be applied within 1 hour. Any additional coats after the one hour - you need to wait 7 days for the paint to cure. This is about the only spray paint I have found that you can actually use rubbing compound to polish out the final coat and achieve a really smooth, glossy surface. My wheels look like brand new :)

The key is to prep wheels well and follow instructions. I applied 3-4 light coats to wheels and they look great.

The spray nozzle is a bit finicky when the can is not full. To avoid over spray problems try as much as possible to keep the can vertical. Easier said than done when painting a wheel. The finish and durability of this paint cannot be matched. The best finish I have found with a rattle can. Always spray the most visible portion of the wheel last and if you can work fast enough to keep the entire surface wet you won’t have any over spray issues to deal with. Claying the portions with over spray after drying will fix most if not all of any imperfections you find. I will buy again.
