Can this be used by someone with vision in only one eye for animal viewing?

Only if you hold it up to your good eye.

I have heard that 8x is easier to hold steady than 10x, but the 8x25 is only 4.2in long. Does this not also hinder holding steady?

It's A LOT easier to hold steady a 8X than a 10x...not always you are going to be calm enough to hold steady a 10x...Steadiness it's crucial.

Hi all, I've read many reviews, and the specs...but am still unclear about what the "close focus" is. 1 foot? 10 feet? thanks!

Close focus is 25 feet, a little fuzzy at 20 ft. I use mine to spot bullet holes in a target when shooting with iron sights at 50 yards. Works great!

how close is close focus?

I am estimating it to be about 15 feet. Didn't find this out until after I bought it and started using it. Would have really liked something that was more like 5 to 6 feet, or closer.
