Good story, some silly mistakes in the reporting.
I grew up in Renton and know the areas of the murders very well. I lived two doors down from one of the children who was killed but also searched through the woods for them when they were reported missing. The police officers first on the scene in the first murder were Don Smith and Ray Saude. Right out the bat, the author got their names wrong.Another odd thing: The sculpture of the "cat" described in the area where one of the victims was found is actually two wolves. I'm not sure how he could have seen the area and thought it was a cat.The school the author named isn't Demet, but A.W. Dimmitt. There are more, and although they don't really take away from the story, if it's a true story then dammit, get the details correct. But mainly what I remember about this time in my life is I could no longer go for my morning walk in the woods before school after the boys were found. Our easygoing freedoms changed. We were leery and nervous. Parents no longer let the kids just run the neighborhood freely. The whole neighborhood mourned, as did pretty much all of Renton during this time. I had forgotten how much these murders impacted my childhood. Also, this is NOT a $25.00 paperback. Why is it so expensive? The Kindle version is too expensive as well.

Great read of a horrible crime
Who knew??? I've lived in the vicinity of Renton all my life, pay attention to the crime reports, and never heard about this! I love the way Detective Steiger leads the reader through the crimes, the mystery, the investigation (warts and all) and the eventual prosecution. We are so much more aware now, but he transported us back to that more carefree time, when these sorts of maniacal incidents just didn't happen, and the tools available to law enforcement were so few.

The Serial Killer That Time Forgot
This book tells the fascinating story of four murders, forgotten for fifty years. Everyone has heard of the Green River Killer; Cloyd Steiger’s book tells the story of the Cedar River Killer -- Gary Gene Grant -- who did his killing before the terms “serial killer” was invented. The story starts on the banks of the Cedar River in 1969 near the Renton Public Library, which spans the river. If not for a found knife and some alert police work, Grant might have killed many more. Steiger’s book does an outstanding job of recounting Grant’s crimes; more importantly, however, his book honors the memory of four young people whose lives were senselessly taken.

Not sure it was worth Nine dollars - but an interesting read
Interesting book about an old murder case from the Eastside of Lake Washington. The book was a bit brief to justify the nine dollar price. Interesting book, however.
