I am a passionate, weekend-warrior type photographer: every other year I will pick up my camera and go on a big trip to the S.A.R., Wyoming, or Alaska. I admit my goals can be unrealistic. The author's cautions about safety, and tips on stealth, have helped me to dial in my zeal and give me realistic expectations of how to capture nature's finest fauna. I heartily recommend this book.

Good for Photographer and Hunter
This book is small, short, but has a lot of good advice for anyone wanting to get more from their outdoor experience. I just wish it went into more depth. Overall, recommended.

Very practical and useful!
I've read many books on wildlife photography and this book is unique. Coming from the perspective of a hunter, it focuses on adapting the techniques and field craft of the sustenance hunter to the craft of the wildlife photographer. Every serious wildlife photographer will find useful information in this book.

Joseph needs a good editor. He is passionate about his subject
Joseph needs a good editor. He is passionate about his subject, but doesn't really cover the subject very well. I read it all but don't feel like I learned that much.

WILDLIFE Basics!
It is a great Wildlife book! I never realized how much was involved in preparation. I really like how the author starts with the very basics and gradually moves forward.

Helpful for photographers starting in deep backcountry photo hunting.
Photographers looking to push their wildlife experiences beyond the road and hiking trail may benefit from Classen's knowledge of the hunt. The book doesn't concentrate on exposure and composition, but on the field craft of a hunter with a camera. Skills such as knowing where and when to hunt, understanding wildlife behavior and competence in the field are critical to backcountry enjoyment, and Classen appropriately shares his knowledge. Plus, Classen's wildlife photography is beautiful -- often up close and personal. His images are his credentials as a skilled wildlife photographer.

Not the best on wildlife photography and rather for beginners
I read better books but this has some interesting bits about being in the forest. Not much about wildlife photography though. Also photos are rather documentary not really inspiring
