Everyone's heard of it...but nobody's read it. Luke, Seth, and Kady have heard all the stories about Malice-a secret comic about a strange, awful world full of tricks and traps, and overseen by a sinister master of ceremonies, Tall Jake. But if the rumours are to be believed, the children in this comic are real... Luke is the first to fall into this trap-and Seth and Kady are the next to follow. They have left our world and entered the sinister comic book. The question is-can they make it out alive? From acclaimed author, Chris Wooding, a novel that's half fact, half comic-and all thrills. Review: Exceeded my expectations!! - While I have never read a book by Chris Wooding before the cover of this one caught my attention when I was at the bookstore (I bought it through desertcart). I must say that I was not expecting a book where the main characters get caught in a comic book would have me as entertained as this one did. The story follows Seth as he enters the world of Malice to look for his lost friend. Along the way you find yourself cheering him on as he fights through the secrets of the clockwork beasts that inhabit Malice. The comic scenes add geat vision to the story all ready in your mind and always seem to be the major action scenes in the book. Without giving to much away I must say that there were several parts that completely caught me off guard from what I expected to happen. I like books where you think you know what will occur then BAM!! you get something very different. At the end I must say I am eagerly awaiting part two titled Havoc. Review: A wild success for my 4th grader! - I should start out with a disclaimer: I haven't read this book. I bought this for my reluctant reader based on the premise and other desertcart reviews. I was a voracious reader at his age, and I have hoped to instill a love of books in him as well, but... it's hard to compete with the Wii, the X-box, Cartoon Network and UB Funkeys. Any book he's ever read he was out of necessity for school. Most nights I come home from work and practically have to pry the boy off the computer. Imagine my surprise and delight to come home and find him reading. READING! An actual book! I just about clicked my heels with glee, people. I couldn't believe it. Not only has this book trumped his interest in video games, the internet, and TV, the only thing that distracts him is wanting to talk about the story in great detail. Ok, so 10-yr olds don't edit, and he rambles on & on. I don't care. He's so enthusiastic it's a pleasure to listen to him describe the story. If it took standing on my head and playing the banjo to get him to read, I would've done it; instead, it just took the right book. As far as reading levels go, this book seems perfect for tweens and maybe young teens. I like that the vocabulary has challenged him; he has come to me twice, to ask me how to say "menagerie" and "oubliette." We got to find out together that oubliette is a medieval word for dungeon. How cool is that! I'm hoping I can remember some of the books I loved at his age; two that come to mind are The Witches of Worm and The Lion's Paw. Any other suggestions are welcome and much appreciated! As far as my rating for Malice? Any book that compels a 10-yr old boy to read deserves 10 stars.

Trustworthy seller
Especially when buying materials used, it's always a question about the quality you're getting, so I went with "Used - like new." As advertised, it was pretty much like new. There was a small stain on the side of the pages, but everything else was in excellent condition, and that's not easy for a book with an unusually thick cover. It came carefully packaged and well cared for. Review for the book itself: Very well written. It's one of the rare books that gave me the chills, and my youngest brother got a jump scare from the end of one of the chapters. There is a mix between comic-book telling and regular novel, and the comic-book portions are hard to follow, as well as sometimes being too fast paced, but all in all a fun, spooky story.

Great read!
My son insisted I read it. Any book that keeps a boy's attention and makes him want to share it with others, is alright by me. It's a very dark journey full of interesting situations and characters. Definitely a unique story. Cult classic material for sure!

Amazing and sinister book one of my favorite books growing up
A fun read with some graphic novel pages to really get a look into the sinister world. The book had slight scuffing around the edge but that's to be expected when ordering a book nowadays. (For Hardcover buyers) Due to the extra weight on the cover, this book does have a habit of falling apart over time, to avoid it's best to support the cover while reading, or just opt for the paperback if you aren't picky. Very excited to give it another read after all these years.

Spannung
Sehr gutes Buch für alle jugendlichen ab elf Jahren. Enthält viel Spannung und hört zwar mitten drin mit einem guten Schluss auf, aber es gibt zum Glück eine Fortsetzung.

Doesn't get much better than this
The only niggle - slight - is that this book is the first half of the story. Fortunately, Kindle means I could download the second book straight away and carry on reading. Otherwise, as always, an excellent novel with great characters and a fast paced storyline.
