Timeless classic
I bought this book for my 1st-grade granddaughter. It was recommended by my daughter who teaches 1st grade. She could read almost all of it. Because she lives a bit away, I get the e-book at my library and we video-chat and read this book together. It's a great way to connect. Toad is grumpy and funny. Frog is the optimist. I remember reading this with my kids. It is relatable and gives the kids confidence in reading a "chapter" book. It takes us about 5-10 minutes to read each chapter with me reading one page and her reading the other. It's the perfect book for early readers.

Wonderful beginner readers and bedtime stories
The most wonderful thing about the Frog and Toad books - and there are several - is that the stories are a pleasure and a delight for adults to read, while the sensibly-sized print and copious illustration make them perfect beginner readers for children. Every few lines you stop. "You read this next sentence." The child can't wait. "'Oh, no!' said Toad." Well done, you say, and carry on reading. Within a few readings they are snatching the book from you. "I'll do this bit." And because the vocabulary is so basic and sensible, the child painlessly learns to read along with you. And get Owl at Home as well. That's classic Lobel and my husband's favourite.

A childhood classic!
Just as I remember it from my youth. My son, 5, loves the pictures. It would be a good book to have in hardback!
