Does the "sheet stopper" get in the way when using the desk for anything other than tilted drawing?

I suppose it could be different for some (depending on how you work and how wide your elbow span is), but for me when I am working with it flat, which is most of the time, my arms rest on either side of the 'sheet stopper' so it does not get in my way. It is only about 15.75 inches wide and my elbows rest at least 21 inches apart so it is not a problem for me.

I would like this desk to work well with a laptop and for study. Does the drawing rail get in the way for that purpose?

I guess that would depend on exactly what you want it to do. If you are wanting the tilting desk to tilt the Laptop up for you, then I would recommend a laptop stand used on a flat table, because it will allow air to get under the laptop and keep it cool. There are many of these stands for very little money. If you have something else in mind, I would need to know that to answer.
