Garbage
It has an interesting idea no matter how far fetched, but the English is appalling,I read Dark Matter and was interested in the concept. This on the other hand is tripe. The characters were very two dimensional. Apart from the main protagonists, they had silly names.A good proof reading would not go amiss. The plot, such as it is, is tedious and repetitive.Could have cut the middle two hundred pages and it would not make any difference to the story. To prove he knows something about physics, he throws in a couple of buzzwords like muon and neutrino, but it doesn’t really wash.Maybe because he is American he uses the Fahrenheit scale whereas scientists use Celsius or in extreme cases they use Kelvin.I had no sympathy with the main characters who get everything they deserve coming to them.My particular bugbear is the use of “bring” instead of “take”. You bring something FROM somewhere and take something TO somewhere else. Americans bring everything and never take things.Overall a fast paced “thriller” but the author is so caught up with getting his descriptions across, you can almost hear him stumbling over his adjectives.Don’t think I’ll bother with anymore of his output. Life’s too short.

Lots of ups, but some downs too.
My first experience with Blake Crouch was Dark Matter, and I loved it, for the most part. As soon as I finished that book I pre-ordered Recursion hoping for more of the same. But to begin with I was actually a little disappointed. For some reason, at least within the first fifty or so pages, I found the present tense to be really jarring, to the point that I couldn't manage a comfortable flow to my reading. But having said that the last couple of sections leading up to 'Book Two' (page 99) really got rolling, and finally made me think, 'yes, now we're getting somewhere. This is the Blake Crouch I signed up for.'But then, closing in on the climax...if there actually was one, I got frustrated again. I try not to mention anything about the actual story in my reviews because I don't want to spoil things for potential readers, so hopefully it won't give too much away. The main character decided to relive her life over several times, everything leads up to this so I don't think I'm giving anything away here. The thing that really bothered me about all this was the fact that we don't really get to experience much of it. It's as if Crouch needed to make a point of these relived lives, that it was very necessary, but he couldn't be bothered to add interest to it for the reader. We get little more than, "she relived her life again," and that's pretty much it.And I'm sorry, but the way this thing is resolved is a complete cop-out in my mind.So yes, I was disappointed with some of it. But I've since bought the first in the Wayward Pines series, so I haven't given up on him just yet.

The most compelling sci-fi story I've ever read
The first half of this book had me turning the pages as fast as possible, trying to piece together what was going to happen next. And although it gets a bit too far into 'Hollywood Action Film' territory once the action ramps up, every page is still incredibly interesting and a joy to read. You'll have to suspend your disbelief for some parts of the premise - I can understand one person going back in time will have false memories, but it seems unreasonable to me that this causes memories to suddenly appear in other people's heads. But other than that, this book has a really satisfying conclusion, and it raises some very interesting points about the nature of reality that will keep you thinking about it long after you turn the last page. Strongly recommended.

Almost...but not quite!
I was brought here by Dark Matter, but I am not so sure that Recursion would have led me to Dark Matter if you know what I mean! The book is staggeringly inventive and has some truly mind-bending concepts but I felt it was a little too clever by far. There was a feeling of the film Inception about this and the constant changing of timelines became wearing after a while. Crouch is rapidly becoming my go to author at the minute so I was a little disappointed seeing as Dark Matter was so awesome. don't get me wrong this is good, it's just it lacks the intensity of his previous work.

Loved it
This is the book I chose to read “out of my comfort zone”. I wanted to do this at least twice per year and this one seemed more of a mild introduction. This is about suicide, a suicide epidemic that is sweeping out and causing people to end their life.It involves memory and memory loss too.A detective whose trying to find out why......That’s my honest take on it, I read this in one day. I can honestly say as a genre out of my usual choices this could sway me to another side!Loved it
