Could you possibly spray your car hood with this

i would say why not, its a paint, you wouldnt get same finish as normal base/clear car paint, and you wouldn't be able to use lacquer finner or stuff like that on it later.

Would this hold up as well to the standard duplicolor automotive spray paint that people use for painting fishing reels?

If you clear coat it it should. Just fyi if you have an item with a lot of angles/curves this is difficult to use.

Has anyone tried this kit on a football helmet or face mask?

no but used it on a custom curved dash I built for my Corvette racecar.Base coat of paint covered well and the layover is a little tricky to lay flat but results turned out well.
