Undate #2:After the leash broke so per my previous review I did receive a replacement from Dean & Tyler after all (see my pervious update). However, after another few months of use, while the leash didn’t break yet, the inside rope disconnected from the end tab and is only held on by the outside leather. So for fear of the leash snapping one day I stopped using it completely. My dog is not a big puller and weighs only 55 lbs, but I don’t want to risk it. I now regret having dropped almost $80 on a leash that I’m not using any more.Update 1 ½ YEARS later: Still LOVE the leash, BUT... The leather tab that holds the brass ring for the hand loop just tore off, and I lost the brass ring in the process. So no more hand loop. I was not too worried because Dean & Tyler offers a lifetime warranty IF YOU PURCHASE DIRECTLY FROM DEAN & TYLER. Since I purchased the leash from Amazon, this warranty doesn't apply to me. Too bad! It can be fixed I guess, but I have to find a cobbler that can sew on a new leather tab and find a new matching brass ring.ORIGINAL REVIEW: What a great leash! It feels great in your hand, excellent craftsmanship, sturdy and elegant at the same time. The 1/4" thickness is perfect, not too thick and not too thin. I have a 60 lbs dog and he will not be able to break this leash by a long shot. It came in a fabric pouch and lightly oiled, smells like good saddle leather. Another reviewer for the same leash in 1/2" thickness complained about the smell, but this is how oiled leather smells like! The leash is by no means 'greasy' and the oil will continue to soak in as time goes by. It coils and stores nicely, not stiff at all but soft and subtle.I love how I can convert the leash to a slip lead (choke leash) for the trip from the car to the dog park. I just make the 'sling' and slip it over my dog's head without having to bend down and clip the leash onto his collar. He now sticks his head into the sling because he knows it makes him go quicker to the park ;-) I also use the over across my body option a lot when I need my hands free to carry groceries from the car inside - don't have to hold the leash with my hands.I had a bit of buyer's remorse right after ordering 'what the heck was I thinking spending $75 on a leash???" - but I'm glad I did!

I realized from reading the company website that their products are made for larger dogs. I am guessing the 1/4 measurement is the diameter of the cord "filling" inside the rolled leather.I have almost gotten over the price, reminding myself that it really about upgrading my dog walking experience. My hands and fingers are sometimes sore and the diameter of the leash and over the shoulder option relieves any additional strain.It looks like a lot of leash for a 30 pound dog, however it is a really nice product.

I absolutely loved this lead and was extremely upset today when it just snapped.

I have a small dog who does not strain or pull much. Yet the leash came apart by September. Disappointing.
