I actually use this for welds.
I use this digital gauge often for checking the convexity and concavity of welds. (some may refer to as weld reinforcement) mainly on orbital welds. Off the top of my head, the contact points are roughly 2 inches apart, so roughly an inch on each side of the measuring tip. The thing is made in china and you can certainly tell that from touching and holding. mine doesn't quite fit in the case perfectly but they included 2 batteries and the case has small punch outs for the second battery. I haven't used this on any fillet welds. I would recommend this product based on the price point and what I have used this product for.

This is my second one, lost the other one. It does what it should, the quality is great. It can turn on if you don't lock the wheel down.... But that's the only con.
