Good charcoal, but not for my purposes.
This charcoal is perfectly adequate for most applications. It burns hot and lasts longer your average charcoal you can find if you ran to the grocery store. I recommend it for anyone who has NOT been spoiled by using expensive Japanese charcoal. Unfortunately, I am one of those people. I bought this charcoal because my usual supplier for binchotan/sumi charcoal was out of stock. I usually use this expensive charcoal in my Konro grill, for both at-home KBBQ and yakitori and sometimes grilling fish. The charcoal always made all the difference and we would often prefer eating at home rather than going out to expensive restaurants because nothing can beat the unique flavor.Unfortunately this charcoal just can't compare. Like I said, it burns hot and lasts a decent amount of time, but it's much more ashy and produced more embers than our usual charcoal which definitely affects the taste of the food. Since it doesn't burn as cleanly, the meat also doesn't taste as "clean". It's hard to describe and it's not bad at all and I still enjoyed the food. And in fact, guests we invited to eat that had not tried the old charcoal we had told us the food tasted amazing. But I can tell. So, if you're looking for better than average charcoal that won't break the bank, you can give these a try. If you are expecting high-performance high-percentage carbon charcoal for a Konro grill, I would pass.
