Devcon Epoxy Bathtub Repair Kit (Almond & White)

so I have a fiberglass tub surround that is about 15 yrs old. the color is white but , you know its not truly white any more. there was a dime sized crack in the shape of a circle near the drain. I knew at some point someone would put enough pressure on that to break it into a hole. time to fix it. I found this product to be very liquid, but a tacky sticky liquid. not anything I had to soften up or knead. in fact, I cut a snip off each packet and squeezed just some out to get started. I mixed them in the tray of the package, then applied a thin layer on the now sanded tub, I quickly dropped down my sized fiberglass ( I frayed the edges as this fiberglass is like the thickness you use for auto body repair, my small repair area was not going to hide that well) I pressed the cloth in, then applied more goop on top. this does self level out. later when it dried I added a second coat to help hide the outline of the cloth. since the bottom of this tub ( which was abused and never cleaned by the last owners) really wont come back to the perfect white it was, and is at the walls, I added just a drop of the ivory. this really made the color match perfect! now, the repair is palpable around the edges but only slightly. it is 100% better looking then the dirty ugly crack was! and really, you only see the repair if you get down in there, I took and posted photos of it.... but I had to take many and adjust the lighting to get the repair to show for you. I found this product easy to work with, tho I have decades of experience in repairs working with bondo, fiberglass and such... but I would say even a novice can handle this job and get a good result. have an assistant to hand you stuff or clean up any mess for you, we had to use a stick pin to remove lost brush bristle in the repair, you may want to have one handy. paper towels were handy. this is a one time use product, but I did get two consecutive applications out of it, but in the same day, and I managed it by mixing just half the product up. it does set up fast. this is nice to fix the crack, and not pay for a whole new tub and surround, or a full refinish job in the kids bathroom. I will update over time and let everyone know how it holds up to use and getting cleaned. Ok, first use, it holds! waterproof seal, I no longer worry that water is seeping under my tub. I posted a new pix of the repair fully dry and cured. this is a rock hard finish. the color really matches well and while its a bit shiny that is mostly because my tub is rather worn. I think you could even use this to fix a chipped white tile! this is such a hard product when dry, I think for the crack I had, I could have skipped the cloth and went with a thinner coat. if you are going to try to fix a chip in your sink, just apply a thin coat, let it level off and dry. it really is cool stuff. its still holding after several showers and we decided to smooth it down to blend better. this worked great, I sanded the edge and then buffed it smooth, now its no longer more shiny than then the tub is and it really blends more. the sanding did not effect the durability at all.

First, a caveat: This is NOT a refinishing product. It is a PATCH. It will look like a patch, smell like a patch and never, ever make your tub ready for a Better Homes and Gardens photo shoot. Tub refinishing is expensive. If you spend $[. bucks and think your tub will look like new, you are a moron. You can tell the people who reviewed this poorly are morons with unrealistic expectations. The bad news: The kit says will repair a 5" crack. No, the fiberglass strips were short. The kits were less than 4" in one and the other was 4.5" the end of the shorter piece was so badly frayed so only about 3.5" was usable. I had a 7" crack in the shower pan of my RV so I had ordered two kits. I had barely enough to repair the crack. The almond pigment is useless, there is too little and the epoxy resin still comes out white, it also takes up valuable time mixing in the pigment. Chances are your almond has yellowed with age, so don't even bother mixing it in. The repair still will look white and since this stuff SETS UP REALLY FAST, use the time to get the repair correct. If you need it look good to sell the RV, get some spray paint and sandpaper. Did I mention this stuff gets hard FAST? I MEAN FAST! Make sure to drill about a 1/4" hole at each end of the crack to prevent spreading, get all your tools ready and WORK FAST!!!!! If you don't you will have a mess. The good news: Fixed a really bad crack 100% for about $30, a new shower pan would have cost hundreds, plus been a nightmare to install (professional installation would have brought the total bill well over $500-$600). It took about an hour to do from prep through clean up and the shower was ready to use in eight hours. A bit ugly but completely repaired for less than 1/20th of replacement cost. I'm sure this is made in China or India... I called the Manufacturer ( [...] ) and complained about the poor quality of the fiberglass and uselessness of the almond pigment. They were polite, apologized and are sending me a free kit for any future cracks. While not 100% satisfied, it did work better than expected and saved me several hundred dollars. I would use this product again. Did I mention this stuff sets up fast? Good luck!

I have a vinyl shower. For those who need to make repairs, this vinyl shower may also have fiberglass in it--I am unable to tell and can no longer find the manufacturer's manual. Not knowing exactly what the shower was made of complicated the situation for me. I had two small cuts in the vinyl right near the drain thanks to a bottle of cleaner that fell and dinged the vinyl. I knew if I left it, it would get worse. Couldn't see calling in a repair man so I went looking for a repair kit. I bought this as it sounded, more or less, like what I needed. This kit comes with white and almond paint in tiny sachets and then there's the epoxy mix, a brush and a bit of material for a bigger hole. I thought I would be using the white but after opening the kit, I saw that I needed almond, so it was good that both were included. There is hardly any paint. Instructions say to squeeze it out but you cannot. It is such a small amount and sticks to the sides of the tiny packet. I ended up adding the epoxy to the split open package and mixing it. I applied the mix and it looks great. The holes were tiny but now you can't tell they were even there. Instructions said to let cure for 24 hours but it was still tacky then so I let it go for 36 hours. I would minus a star for the cheapness of the amount of paint given but since it worked so well, I am giving 5 stars. This might not work for you if you have a larger area. The 2 cuts I dealt with were not even 1/2 long.

I bought this a couple of years ago to use on a small hairline crack in our corner shower unit purchased at lowes.. The crack showed up maybe 1 1/2 years after the new shower was installed. It was on the floor section of the shower. We went to Lowes, who did not know what to do about it, didn't know what product to use on it and suggested we call the manufacturer.. I tried, got no where, the carpenter that had installed didn't feel responsible (we were told they had "probably" tightened down the drain too tight.. So, out of frustration, I ordered this stuff.. It was suppose to be white (like our shower) but it was actually almond.. They were out of white, so if I shipped back the almond, I was just out of luck.. So I used it out of desperation.. I did everything required, as per the instructions.. I even drilled a tiny hole at the ends of the crack (as recommended) to prevent it from spreading.. It initially did work, and did a good job.. It sealed the crack, although, looked pretty bad to have this splotch of almond on the white floor.. After it had plenty of time to cure, I placed a bath mat over it, so the color really no longer bothered me at all.. I've lifted the bath mat many times to clean with no problem.. This past winter I noticed little pieces around the edges kept coming loose. I wasn't that concerned about it as I figured it was just the edges chipping loose, but 2 weeks ago, I pulled up the bath mat to clean and the entire patch came up clean as a whistle, stuck to the bath mat.. it left nothing on the shower floor.. Gotta wonder how long it's been loose like that.. So, overall, for the price, it did work for a couple of years, but it doesn't appear to be a long term solution.. I've now ordered another product from Amazon and I'll see how that works.. I'm not going to order this again as I was looking for something to actually solve the problem, not something I'd have to redo every couple of years.. And, it also again says it comes in almond and white, so I'm not sure what exactly that means.. They don't give you a choice of color and I'd worry that I'd once again end up with the almond color..

I’d wager 99% of all readers here have mixed and used 5 minute epoxy before and had no great difficulty. But some how, Devon decided they had to end the imaginary scourge of epoxy mixing errors in America. They put the resin and hardener in one plastic bag, separated my a thin internal wall. You squeeze to rupture the internal wall, and then massage the bag until both parts are mixed. Nice, huh? No mess, very convenient. Nope. It takes quite a while to mix the two. Just read other reviews where the customers blamed themselves for not working fast enough. Victims blaming themselves, amazing. This product is a corporate success, however, because they make it impossible to get a second use out of it. Congratulations Devcon!! It seems a lot of us have shower doors that are impossible to clean so we tore them out, leaving holes in our Fiberglas shower/bath. The reviewer whose wife thinks he is a magician had a good idea about using blue masking tape around each hole when he performed the above fix. I appreciated his review and it helped convince me to buy this product. I have some cautions to add when patching holes on a vertical surface: 1. This epoxy sticks to blue tape better than your fiberglas, even if you cleaned all well. Consider removing the tape before the epoxy completely hardens. But be careful, you could still rip all the epoxy out of the hole if you do it too late. Of course, if you do it too soon, the epoxy will flow out and down. So this could mean that you might need one helper on each hole, managing it during the drying process. Because more than one door had been installed in our shower we had way more than the usual 2 or 3 holes on each side. 2. Next time, I would build a small dam out of tape below the hole. 3. If you try to use a putty knife to push epoxy back in the hole, remember the pot life for this stuff is super short. It cannot be smoothed once it starts to set, it just tears it up and your hole is still not filled. And, in your haste as you rush to finish before it all hardens, you will forget a spot. I might buy this product again, even though it is eggregiously overpriced given it is, or wants to be, a single use product, and if I did get it again, I would avoid mixing in their bag. I would either pre-dispense the resin and hardener into separate containers, or I would snip a corner off each end of the bag and dispense it into a mixing cup only as needed. The best advice I can offer is that you should not worry about how much sanding you will have to do. If you can get a glob to fill your holes, even if a lot is sticking out, and it dries that way, the sanding won’t be that difficult. But better advice would be to find some white epoxy.

This stuff works exactly as described - but WARNING: this stuff gets extremely in the packet. Like too hot to touch. You can gauge how much handling time you have left based on how hot the package is. If you can't touch it, don't bother it's already turned to putty. I attempted this once so far to repair a round crack in a frp backed acrylic tub. I played with it too much, and had to wipe it off before it set because there was way too much on the tub. Tried again, same result. This is the most "runny" epoxy I've ever used. Third time, not the charm. At this point I found out about the extremely hot package problem. The product works quite well, and color matched beautifully. This was a case of user error, and I've ordered another package to try again. I will update then. **Update 10/7/16** With some knowledge of the handling time and quantity to use, I was able to get this product to work decently. Older model tub that used to be white required mixing a tiny bit of almond into the white to get the color right. Applied over the cracked area, which was a circle about the size of a dime, to about the size of a quarter. (I dropped a hammer in the tub during a tile job) I used enough to create a small "cap" over the area, about 1/16th high. After it dried for 36 hrs to ensure it was fully cured, I sanded it with 600grit paper, followed by a buff job with 00 false steel wool. The steel wool really smoothed out the surface and helped blend the patch, and it even create a nice glossy finish. If you don't know where to look, its not immediately noticeable.

If you are looking for a product that will patch a hole/crack and blend in to be unnoticeable, this is NOT it! I was looking for a product to do exactly what this product claims to do: patch a hole, so my expectations were fully met. Our daughters somehow turned a small crack in our master shower into two huge holes in just one day of using our shower. I know how common broken/ruined items are around our house, so replacing the entire shower or shower pan would just be a waste of money right now. I wanted something to securely patch the holes so my husband and I could continue using our shower. This stuff did the trick! It is exceptionally easy to use, although, yes, as many others have said, it does get thick and sticky fairly quickly. I had to slap it on at the end just to ensure it would be thick enough. So, yes, I'm left with an ugly mess, but it darn sure beats a shower pan leaking under the wall into my daughter's room! I can tell this stuff will hold up for a long, long time!

This product works well as described. I have a fiberglass composite sink in my kitchen. A heavy cutting board slid in the sink and put a hole in the corner about the size of a dime. Upon inspection, we found many weak spots in the sink. So be bought this kit to repair the hole and also reinforce spots in the sink. After reading the reviews. I was concerned about heat and odor when using this product, and also about set time. None of these were a concern. There was no heat build up when we mixed the epoxy. There was practically no odor. So don't be concerned about those factors. The set time was about the same as for other epoxies I have used, maybe about 10 minutes of workable time. The almond color mixed in fine and worked well. It is not an exact match to the sink, but it is very close. The only challenge we had was that the epoxy tends to run on a vertical surface. It filled the hole, but sagged. I kept pulling it back in place as it set, but there is a noticeable indent where the hole was. I believe I could fill it with a second kit, but probably won't bother. The epoxy comes in a two sided pouch. You squeeze one end and combine the product. Then you cut the corner and squeeze the activated epoxy into a tray. It is VERY adhesive. WEAR GLOVES! If I had this to do over, I would clip a corner from both sides of the pouch and mix the epoxy in a disposable dish like an old butter tub. Then I could mix only half the product and seal the hole. After it set, I could mix the other half and smooth the repair, and fill the gap. The seal is excellent, and the sink is water tight again. Also the repair is very strong. I definitely recommend this product.
