I loved this perspective more than the original lore
This was an outstanding novel and an incredible new story. It is important to mention that it is not meant to be a retelling of current Warcraft lore, but a new story altogether. That being said, I loved this perspective more than the original lore. It includes many of the characters we know, but gives much more depth to the main characters in the novel, primarily members of the Frostwolf Clan. If you plan on seeing the Warcraft film, this book is a must because the movie will have differences that cannot be understood without the background provided in this book. The book itself was riveting and kept me on the edge of my seat. Once I started it, I read it in three sitting because I couldn't put it down. There is a tremendous amount of detail and building of the characters' personalities. I expected a large portion of this book to be huge battle scenes, but I was pleasantly surprised to see that it was much deeper than that. Overall, an excellent book that I will happily reread!

Movie universe, but definitely worth reading
It is important to go into reading this book knowing that it was written to set up for the movie, which is differs from the in-game lore/cannon. The story is basically recognizable, but there are things that will stick out as different or "wrong". Setting this aside as its own entity will allow complete enjoyment of the story that it is, and it is a good story. It tells the story of the Frostwolves, and their survival in Frostfire Ridge/Draenor despite the worsening conditions. You get to meet Garad, Durton's father, and get a glimpse of him as leader of the clan prior to his death and Durotan taking his place. The point at which this story ends sets up for where the movie will likely begin. This book is definitely worth the read, for both fans of existing warcraft lore and for those who are just finding out about the movie and may want to know a little more about the movie universe. The cool thing is that this book was written by the same author that wrote Rise of the Horde, the original game lore/cannon, and while it strays a bit from her original story, the characters are still recognizable and handled with the same care as they are in her original work.

I would recommend this to any Warcraft fan
I must say, this is one of the most well written Warcraft books yet. The premise is fairly straightforward. I'm not going into detail, but it is what it says it is: a prequel to the movie. The book focuses completely around Durotan from adolescence to heading off to join the Horde. Now, this book does not strictly follow Warcraft lore. They specifically said they were going to have the movie be kind of its own thing, so there are some things in this book that WoW fans will know are not quite right. BUT...I am OK with that since they have specifically stated the movie (and this book) are not canon. I would recommend this to any Warcraft fan, past or present. I would also recommend it to fans of fantasy, I think they could still find some enjoyment, and might feel inclined to see the movie. (You're welcome, Blizzard)

Great read, history of Durotan and his clan.
This is a great book for anyone into world of Warcraft. It's a telling of Durotan and how the Horde came to be. It's not what I expected considering it was dealing with the Horde, and yet it was still great. It doesn't have a lot of fighting but it's still a compelling story. Getting to learn the history was great, their story is very similar to the Tauren which honestly surprised me. Not giving any spoilers you just need to read it to appreciate it.

Draka! (And other stuff happens, too...)
I have read several of Golden's Warcraft books and thoroughly enjoyed them, and this one did not disappoint. As a prequel to the Warcraft movie, it does an excellent job of showing us what led to the orcs traveling to Azeroth in a way that even those unfamiliar with the game lore can understand. Yes, there are differences in lore here, and I think the choices Golden made in trying to simplify the story and history for those who are coming to Warcraft via the movie were quite smart.Lore aside, it was an entertaining, exciting story. I loved reading the relationship between Durotan and Draka (I LOVE Draka!) as well as the close friendship between Durotan and Orgrim. An excellent read for both those who already love Warcraft and those who are coming to it for the very first time.

Frostwolf History Lesson
Warcraft is written for those who do not know the lore of the Frostwolf Clan. The book is exclusively about them with no reference to Alliance characters or the First War. Gul'dan, of course, plays a major role in moving the Orcs into Azeroth, but this is really just a history of the Frostwolf Clan and Durotan as their leader. It is well written and for those who play WoW it provides a little bit of segue between the Draenor that we have found in the Warlords expansion and the Draenor that we first encountered in Burning Crusades, a/k/a Outlands. After reading this book the area surrounding your Horde Garrison in Frostfire Ridge will make a lot more sense. I would recommend it. It's a short read, predictable in it's story content if you already know the lore, but very informative if you don't. For those who read the book and then see the movie the events which occur from Durotan's and Draka's decisions will be easier to reconcile.

Excellent read!
This book was an amazing ride. I thoroughly enjoyed every chapter.Christie Golden has a way of writing that makes the pages fly by. Before you know it, the chapter will end at a cliffhanger, with a very strong degree of tension that I, as a reader, couldn't resist but to keep on reading this wild adventure.I really do think that Christie Golden truly captures the essence of what it means to be Orc, and more respectively what it means to be a Frost Wolf. Lok'tar Ogar!As a long time fan of WarCraft, WarCraft 2 and WarCraft 3, this adventure was awe inspiring. I definitely recommend anyone who enjoys a fantasy novel to read this one.

Oh gran Durotan

One does not have to play the game to take ...
One does not have to play the game to take away the message of this well researched storyline. If you are a mom and want to see what your sons have been up to, read the book quickly, as there will be a line up waiting on you. Looking forward to the film and dvd.

Engaging From the Start
This is the first book that I have read in years. Whilst I did have help with the audiobook version also, this book really did help set up the movie; though I did see the movie prior to reading the novel. This novel along has made me want to look up the lore to Warcraft and made me want to see the movie again, which I will do.There wasn't a dull character within the novel and everyone had a back story that was told superbly. Very well written, and I look forward to hopefully having more of these as more movies come out (I do hope anyway).EDIT: However there is a kink I've got to wonder, and it's kind of spoilery so look away now if you haven't read or watched the film:- What happened to Geyah and Drek'Thar? They were not found in the movie at all, and the assumption is the time span between the book and the film is about two weeks. They survived in the book, and no where in the movie.

Hard to rate!
I had some problems with rating this book, foremost that I kept comparing it with "Rise of the Horde", another great book of the same author. Had I rated it with this in mind I would have given it four stars, simply because "Rise of the Horde" gives us a much better insight in the World of Draenor, whle this book stays more or less in the realm of the Frostwolf Clan. Also, the reason Draenor is dying is much better explained, or let's say hinted in Rise of the Horde, compared to this final relativation, which feels a bit weak, is maybe the weakest part of the whole novel. The reason I still have given it five stars is, that it doesn't try to be another "Rise of the Horde", but is made to create a basis for the continuity of the movie. In this it is great by introducing us to the Frostwolf Clan and many of its members in a way that makes us feel with them and the hard decisions they have to make. To read of their struggle, their believe in the elements and their bravery while fighting a lost battle to keep their home and lifestyle is great. This is why even if the reason Draenor dies feels weak, reading how Draenor dies feels much, much more emotional here than in the other novel and it gives us a better reason to root for the Orc Clans when they invade Azeroth.I can only hope the movie keeps up to this and that we can read even more of Golden set in this, or rather the Game-Universe.
