Urban "wilderness" on the deck
The media could not be loaded. Wow ... just wow! Visited by migrating "lesser goldfinches" in the middle of the city. During a visit to my local hardware store, on a whim, picked up a package of nyjer/thistle socks ... $9, 1b. Migration of these cuties usually has them here and gone before I even realize they're here. Hung up the first sock and out a minute later, it had 2-3 happily feeding. I spotted the first few around Thanksgiving. In a week, the sock was empty; hung up a second. Another week, no more seed. Stopped in at hardware again and picked up another two-pack, same result, and fully expecting them to continue on down the coast toward Mexico where they overwinter. After those two were emptied out (1 week, 1 sock), bought a 3lb package from the local store. Filled up the socks, one at a time, and noticed it was nosier out on the deck and they seemed to be emptying much faster. My flock had grown to 9-10. Well, two can play this game; began looking on line to find a larger bag, hopefully a little less expensive, while catering to the tastes of my fussy little friends (I learned these colorful, tiny birds are very social; picky eaters; and much prefer nyjer to other offerings – thank you Amazon reviewers who have meticulously recorded your experiences with feeding habits, behaviors, migratory patterns, etc.!). Ordered the 10lb bag just before Christmas and it was delivered a couple of days later. My "flock" now numbers at about two dozen! Video below shows the feeder almost cleaned out and it was filled only 3 hours ago. Even though its raining at the moment, they're everywhere waiting for a chance to get on the sock. I'd already had a series of "bird baths" set up for other birds nesting here doing the summer (common finches, robins; and year-round residents, a breeding pair of mourning doves and hummingbirds). Have had as many as seven birds in one bath, and another 5-6 bathing in the fountain, so they keep busy while waiting a turn.Still looking for the "perfect" thistle feeder; the sock is not ideal, but functional For the many who note most all thistle feeders are messy, yes, they are! Not wanting to waste seed, I pop the sock into an old plastic bag, fill it and it captures the seed that falls out, so it can be used again. And while carrying out to hang on a branch, I leave it inside that bag until the last moment. Cleaner, neater, much less waste. The doves pick at the spillage that lands on the deck; everybody happy! This seed is still pricey, but best deal I've found. It's very fresh, given fast rate of attraction by the flock. And I'm blazing though it! Well, actually, THEY are!All in all, it's nice to bring a bit of nature right to my door, moments of happy while the world tries to sort itself out ... now time to go fill again ;-)

Cheaper than Walmart great quality
I can’t purchase enough of this, my little yellow finches stay in my yard eating all of these little thistles and if you want to keep your birds from leaving your yard keep your feeder full.

Nyjer seed. Good quality, Good price/lb.
The birds love it. With Prime shipping, is better price/lb. than local farm-supply outlet+gas. Will buy again soon. Various finches, rose-breasted grosbeaks, juncos, cardinals etc are woofing it down and nesting nearby since start-feeding over a month ago.

Nice product! Treat your finches to some high quality thistle seed!
Finally, a bag of bird seed with a quick closure strip. Bought this together with Stokes Select Thistle Tube Bird Feeder. 10# bag size is easy to handle and pour from.

Happy with this
Bag is re-sealable. Not a big deal unless your last bag wasn’t, and it tips over when full right over an open drawer, grrr. Seed is pretty much shmutz free so it won’t clog the holes in my feeder. It must be fresh - birds been gobbling’ it up.

Fresh!
Better price than most others, and the seeds smell fresh! The last bag I purchased, of a different brand, smelled old and somewhat rancid. Happy to give my birdie friends some healthy stuff!

Attracts finches
Glad to see that the seed was fresh enough to attract my finches, who are picky.
