3M 105 Over the Head Earmuff

I work at a factory and some areas are quiet while other areas are deafening. Rather than sticking in ear plugs and taking them out over, and over, and over... I bought these earmuffs. Best decision ever! When I walk into the control room I rotate them up so I can talk to the guys; as soon as I walk out, I can put them back on in seconds. This is also more sanitary because I'm not sticking gross foam ear plugs into my head. Install time took about 5 seconds and they seem to be universal: these even fit my "novelty hard hat" (made by MSA, has a camouflage shell). I've used these earmuffs in temps down to about -10 deg F, they still work fine. The spring loaded parts seem to be metal and not plastic. After 4 months of constantly flipping them up and down, these muffs are still going strong. Downsides I've found: #1. they look dorky. #2 These are a bit heavy; it's not unreasonable, but you'll definitively notice the weight after a 10 hr shift. If you work in a noisy, but not deafening area: I would encourage you to pass on these and get a lower rated muff / lighter version... your neck will thank you.

Its not often I so easily give 5 stars. Decent comfort when wearing for most or all of the workday. The insides are big enough to allow earbuds to be worn underneath - still with a good seal for noise protection or in my case eliminating the unwanted sounds of coworkers in the office when I need to concentrate. Long story short, after five months my pair broke - the plastic band snapped in two. I decided to contact 3M to ask about warranty. No questions asked, they mailed me a free pair of their even better model 3M Peltor (even more comfortable and better noise protection). They also mailed a prepaid mailing label so I could return the broken pair for their quality labs to look into why they broke. This all happened within ten days - they were very friendly and responsive and the effort on my part was 2 emails. Who can ask for more than that from a company? I'm on my second pair of Tekk earmuffs at work, and I kept the free Peltor earmuffs to use at home. My second pair is still going strong, and I know if there is a problem this company will stand behind the product.
