Built solid, but not so bright.
I checked out and reviewed a good amount of illuminated plate holders for couple days before settling on this one. Since using it on a trailer, i wanted something sturdy, that didn't stick out too much and though not intended, but could take a beating if the situation ever presented itself. Also going with the notion of you get what you pay for, I didn't gripe over the price of the product. After installing and wiring it then running my test all worked well as designed, with the exception of how bright it is claimed to be! At this point in case a copy decides to pull me over, I'm happy to claim that I have a light on the license plate, but is it the best lit? no. The light is bright yes, but only within few inches directly below it. Anything beyond that or at an angle, which the plate is MUCH wider compared to the light, it's a dim illumination. I would say for future designs for version 2.0 (or whichever one you guys are on) towards the edge of the internal LED strips to also angle them outwards to help with the rest of the plate catching some light.Last but not least, I TRULY LOVED the instructions for wiring... Extremely simple and one should NOT have any questions as what wire goes where! I definitely laughed and smiled when i saw it and knew I was in for a straight forward tasks with no problems. Red is brake, yellow is license plate light and black is ground! If anyone needs any additional instructions or are confused, don't do the install and find someone that would do it for you!

Not Quite Right
This is nicely made but it's just not quite right. The bracket and body are all one cast or 3D print (I don't know how it's made). The bracket part that attaches to the the license plate frame is a little over an 1/8" thick. If you are just running a license plate, it's probably OK to top mount behind the plate. If you use a frame, and I do, then some mods have to be done.In my case I cut my steel frame down to allow the light to fit the frame but this places a plastic part between two steel parts which deforms the plastic when tightening this down. The clearances are tight; meaning the license light does not project far from the plate, about 1/2" overall and the plate lights are almost flush with the plate when mounted. Additionally, the hookup wires are 18-20 gauge and very thin. I made a stress relief from 14 gauge to protect the connection to the Jeep.Had I not cut the wires, I would have returned this; the lights are not bright and the resin over the LEDs is sticky and catches dirt like the resin isn't set up. Good idea, not well executed.

Simple & Works
Installed today and tested out, the instructions & wiring was simple but that's to be expected with these types of products. You do need to know what you're doing somewhat though as this is a universal product and is not plug and play (not that it was expected to be). As I was installing it though I came across a minor-ish issue - the cable is comes right out of the back of the actual light part, and there's no relief for the cable to fit in if you're mounting on a flat surface. I was able to get around it by mounting the light on the outside of my plate and using a washer to give it a little extra room, but I'm not confident the cable & therefor the light will end up lasting. A huge plus though is just how bright the light actually is. There's a review talking about how the light isn't bright and the reviewer is worried about being pulled over - this isn't the case at all. It's bright enough the whole ground behind my Jeep is lit up.

Nice upgrade on my ranch hand bumper
The dull light fixture that came with my rear ranch hand bumper had gone out and was never bright enough to light up the license plate at night. This max-bilt light was definitely what I had in mind when I searched for a new fixture. Other than crimping the wires to the harness near the spare tire of my F250, I also drilled a hole on the bumper directly behind the fixture to run the wire for a clean set up. The brightness is more than enough and is visible beyond 50ft as required by Texas traffic code.

So far it works.
So far so good. I haven’t figured out the brake light part. But the important thing was the plate light. Unlike most I don’t have a jeep. I have a lifted 07 suburban on 35s. With a hitch mount spare tire carrier so it covers the factory plate. To add more conduit I have aftermarket newer style gmc led tail housings so I was wiring an aftermarket product to another aftermarket product. No write ups or YouTube videos for me. Super bright though. Brighter than the LEDs were in the stock location. Time will tell longevity wise, but so far pleased.

Wow really disappointed in the quality
Way too small of wires used to build this. Unfortunately it went straight into the trash.
