Merrell

My old boots gave up and I decided to buy some fancy old style leather ones . But having a bunion they became very painful to walk in very quickly. So I then bought these based on reviews and the fact the boots I wore out were of this make. I was naturally suspicious after the failure of my previous purchase. But these booots fit well. I am a male size 9 but got one size up and they seem to fit well. They are light and when walking felt very comfortable. No rubbing on the old bunion. I dont even have to wear a covering on the bunion that I did with my original walking shoes. So a good fit especially if you suffer any bunion problems. They are waterproof as I have found out recently with all the rain we have had. Having put feet down into puddles that were deeper than I thought I was waiting for that cold wet feeling that never came. So they seem to be an excellent walking shoe. I have done a number of walks and they are not showing any signs of wear. I think they will last a while by the look of them . Yes would reccomend if you are looking for a good walking boot.

I’m usually an 8 to 8.5, most reviews say true to size but I ordered an 8 a d with a good pair of socks they were very snug. I then ordered an 8.5 and they are a much nicer fit. Really comfortable with no rubbing at all (and new shoes/trainers usually run my feet somewhere). Nice and warm and although I haven’t worn them in really bad weather they have been dry and comfortable. They have a really good grippy sole, I hope it lasts as walking shows I’ve owned previously with a good grip on the sole have worn out fairly quickly. My only small negative is the laces could do with being a few inches longer to get a decent double knot in them. Overall a really good, sturdy, walking boot. Size wise I’d go up half a size. Good thing on Amazon now is the Amazon Wardrobe so you can order both sizes to try and send the ones back that don’t fit so well. To be honest I did manage to find these a fair bit cheaper on another website but when I needed to order the half size larger only Amazon had the size in stock.

I have purchased and worn many pairs of Merrell hiking boots in the past, primarily because they have a wide fitting and suit my feet so well. They have good ankle support and are strong and fairly durable. They are good comfortable boots, but prospective buyers need to be aware of certain issues. The first is the size: the boots are US-manufactured and US sizes are quoted. If you are used to UK shoe sizes, then for US-sized footwear you should go up at least one whole size, otherwise they will be too small: i.e. if your UK shoe size is 8, then you should buy at least size 9 Merrells for them to fit, and 9-and-a-half if you plan to wear them with thick socks. If you do this, you’ll be OK. The second issue with this particular design is that the soles often become unstuck after a few weeks or months of wear. This will depend on how much wear and walking you do, but the unsticking of the sole with these Moab 2 boots is usually an eventual issue. The third issue is that the gore-tex material is not really waterproof. They are described as “water resistant” but this is not, in any meaningful sense, true: if you walk in heavy rain you will soon have soaking wet feet. The reason is that gore-tex material allows the foot to breathe, and as it lets in air, it allows water in too. I have tried spray-on and rub-in waterproofing products but nothing works. Merrell do offer waterproof non-gore-tex footwear in their range, so if this is likely to be an issue for you, that’s probably what you should choose. Of course, if you’re planning to walk only in hot, dry conditions then the gore-tex will be ideal. With the above reservations, these are good boots but be aware of the minor shortcomings.

At last, a pair of boots that are not only a size UK 11 but also EU 46, this size was recommended by Amazon and they were absolutely right. However, I checked out the size chart which also has the size in inches. The conventional wisdom is to measure then add 0.5 of an inch for toe clearance. I have had enough of returning boots so out of any sizing that I almost gave up buying online. The first thing I noticed was the thickness of the sole by comparison with what I was used to. This is a double-edged sword as a thinner sole helps you feel the rock under your feet when scrambling. However, a thicker sole does cushion impact and I felt a noticeable difference in knee pain when I wore them for the first time. The second thing I noticed was the width, I have fairly broad feet and these are snug and do not compress my toes together. They hold my foot firmly while at the same time giving adequate toe room. I like a boot that is firm which these are but also light, they were comfortable straight out of the box. If I have a gripe it’s that the boot laces are a bit short but I suppose you cannot catch them on anything and fall over which has happened to me. Good so far now need to test out waterproofing!

Soft soled boots that work for non technical terrain. Brought a pair to replace my aging lightweight Adidas goretex boots and wore them in torrential rain while out assessing Duke of Edinburgh Award. I did fit a pair of my favourite insoles (more arch support and planar bump) as the stock ones were a bit flat for my tastes. Brought a size up to accommodate these insoles. 45 miles in 3 days in almost ankle deep water and mud without any ingress. After about 2 hours there was a sore spot developed in my left ankle, which I put down to stitching on the ankle fabric. Flexed the boots and pushed that part out with my thumbs and never felt it again. Cleaned them once they had dried and used them again this weekend, similar distance except this time in thunderstorms. Felt like a pair of slippers, warm dry and toasty. Nearly a hundred miles in and they are great! They aren't stiff enough for high mountains, and personally I wouldn't carry a heavy rucksack as I don't think there's enough ankle support. But for everything else, spot on!

I have been looking for a pair of boots like this at the right price for a long time and did the research and came to these. They are perfect and for myself with a wide foot and the onset of bunions (thanks to my dads DNA) I need a boot that is comfortable and does not make my feet ache. During lockdown I did a lot of walking with the family which I love and found my feet were sore after the walks. There are lots of boots on the market and after researching this for a while I wanted to spend around £100 and came to these boots which have done the job brilliantly. I wore them for the first time and now wear them whenever I can even when not going on long family walks. Great support, fit and comfort.

My last pair of Merrell's that I purchased before the lockdowns lasted 6mnths and since then I have more than doubled my walking and have gone through a least three pairs. I see people are not happy if their boots give out after 5mnths, I wish I could get that long out of them. I saw so many poor reviews regarding the boots longevity, I purchased directly from Merrell as my average time before needing replacement was around 3 months once lockdown started. Unfortunately, buying directly from Merrell made no difference and my last lockdown walking boots lasted 3mnths before I had worn a hole in the heel but if I have doubled my output I guess I should expect 6mnths use going down to 3mnths!! If they were not so damn comfortable I would change brand as this is proving to be a rather expensive outlay every three months. I take size 7 and having tried far too many different brands, these are the most comfortable for 6-8hr walk. Decent socks are also key to my comfort and I have found Rymora Merino Wool Walking Hiking Socks the most comfortable, more comfortable than my Bridgedale Men's WoolFusion Trekker Socks, which are much thicker than the Rymora's but not so comfortable, but I digress, I am supossed to be reviewing Merrell walking boots and not socks! Merrrell's comfort is so far, unsurpassed, I just wish they were far more durable.

Okay, well the left boot is perfect. It's comfortable, fits like the proverbial glove and unlike some of the other reviewers I've found it to be absolutely waterproof. Really like the colour and styling also. Now for the right boot, while it has all of the above going for it also, it has an annoying factory flaw too. With every step there is an audible pop sound coming from the sole, that after a short time can become maddeningly irritating. Would have returned them, but there was no replacement offered, (WHY AMAZON?) just money back. Well the price had jumped up by £40 so I couldn't send them back and order another identical pair at over £100, so decided to keep them (maybe foolishly) in the hopes that maybe they would come right in time. Now regretting not returning them. Two months of wear so far and no improvement. The constant popping is hard to ignore. Highly disappointing as these are perfect boots (5 stars) aside from the pleasure killing flaw in the right sole. Where is your quality control Merrill? Further update. As with other purchaser's boots, both my boots split at the front side edges too. All in all, a purchase I very much regret. Really thought Merrill were a quality brand to be trusted.

This is gift. I had 3 pair of Merrells. I wore them out. They are comfortable and durable. I use 1 pair for work and 2 for hiking and camping. This pair was a gift for a friend. And he loved them. Said they were very comfortable.

These are a great hiking boot. Well made. Fits well, price is far below the local shops. These are the second pair I have purchased. Highly recommend
