Slug: The Sunday Times Bestseller

I first heard about and found Hollie McNish on TikTok and after watching her read a few of her poems I was excited to read her books. I started with Slug and I loved it. The structure is great, I love the different sections and themes. There are lots of poems and also lots of general prose with her telling stories and her thoughts on things which I loved the most. Her outlook on life is refreshing and she writes so well about various different topics. There are also a few short stories which are great too. Overall this is a fab book with a mix of things in it which are all equally good. I am already reading her more recent book Lobster and love that too. I hope I'll be able to go to one of her next tour events.

Brilliant, funny, honest, powerful, reflective and brave. I loved every beautiful word, every story and every poem. Must read more.

I've been reading this on and off for the last few months. I have to keep picking it up and putting it back down again, as it moves me, angers me, saddens me, makes me laugh. I don't think I have the emotional capacity to read this in one sitting.The book itself is a collection of all sorts of odds and ends. Poetry, short stories, essays, even just some rambling. On topics ranging from the Birth of her daughter, to the death of her grandmother. On what parts are the vagina, and what the vulva. On Masturbation and periods. On Family and Friendship. On life itself. I don't think theres anything she doesn't touch.There are occasions it gets a little repetitive, and there are occasions where I don't necessarily agree with her, but even then she makes me think. Makes me examine my own thoughts. It's proof that it's possible to be a feminist and not be misandrist. It's proof that good art has the ability to make you feel and make you think

This book made me laugh and cry (sometimes at the same time)

I recently discovered this poet and I can highly recommend her work. She’s both down to earth and deeply profound, as well as fun! She will make you stop and think, and laugh!

A must for all women and teen girls. Just a gorgeous selection of poems about being a woman, growing up, love, loss and fingering - haha. Hollie's explanation before each of the poems contextualises them and makes each of them jump off the page. Love it, wish I could buy a copy for every woman in my life.

A friend originally told me about Hollie McNish and we went to see her live and I just fell in love with writing. Slug is so funny in parts, so sad in others. It’s a lovely book to gift a mum friend.,
