Nice and clean look, doesn't harbor smells, easy to clean.
I was looking for a composting container to hold food scraps until they go out to the compost area outside. I wanted something big enough for the 2 of us for 5 days to a week but not so big that it took up a ton of space. This seems to fill the bill. I got the 4 Liter/1 gal SLIM LINE design so that I could put it into my sink while peeling veggies and still have room beside it to rinse the veggies and also so that I could mount it on the inside of the cabinet door under the sink when meal prep was complete. So far it has performed well. It holds enough veggie scraps during meal preps for the entire week, and I have not smelled any odors coming from it when the lid is closed. If I throw onion trimmings into it there is a strong onion smell for a while when the lid is open but after an hour nothing smells. I have not used the biodegradable bags for it since by the time we empty it after a number of days they would have already degraded. This means that the emptying process is a bit messy. BUT the little bin does clean up easily and so far I have noticed no stains. At present it has remained in my 2nd sink (I have a small sink in my island) until we finish installing our water filter under that sink. There will be room, but I want to optimize the space so am waiting until the filter system is fully installed, probably in about a month. (We are waiting for our contractor to do the installation.)I am pleased with this purchase. The quality and design of this is EXCELLENT, not a cheap looking or feeling product, well designed and it comes with a bracket to attach to the inside of the cabinet door which makes the bin easy to slide onto and take off the door when needed. I'm looking forward to many years of service of this little bin!

Really great, compact, convenient and easy to use.
This is the best compost bin a have had. It’s super compact and convenient. The linear shape makes it easy to scrape food waste off a cutting board. It’s light so it hangs easily on the cabinet door (if you choose to mount it- mount and screws were included) and its design lets you lift it off and put it back easily. The compact shape makes sure it does not take a lot of counter space when we have it on the counter. Lastly, I love how it’s easy and simple to lift the top off to remove or add a bag and that design stops the edges of the bag from falling into the bin like happens with so many other compost bins. You won’t go wrong with this at all. It’s excellent and very well made and perfectly designed for daily and easy use.

Great for hanging installation but don't use the supplied wood screws to install this!
So this is a GREAT product having features other bins do not have. If you are going to install it on the inside of a cabinet door so that you don't see it on your counter, you likely will run into the same issue I did. That is to install the mount I would have needed to use the tiny screws shipped with it which I'm sure are supplied that small because most cabinet doors are very thin. Those will NEVER hold up--with loading and unloading that bin and the opening and closing of the door regularly those little screws will come loose pretty quickly.Fortunately, most cabinets also have very thick surrounding borders. So what I did was cut a piece of scrap wood of similar color to the cabinet and installed the bin on that. I used a bolt, washer (on the bolt side), lock washer (on the nut side), and nut to connect it rather than wood screws--much better connection. Then I used much longer wood screws to affix it to the cabinet door (four total). It has to be offset from the center so it closes. It should be mounted as high as possible for under-counter cabinets for usable space below it and ease of reach, but keep in mind if you want to keep the handle in the down position, you need to leave room for the handle at the top as well.Other purchasers of this and other bins mentioned the decomposable bags decompose fairly quickly. With this, there is no need to worry about that because you can easily empty it using the handle to lift the entire bin out (it lifts out very easily) and empty it without ever touching the bag. Also, note that I used double-sided tape to affix a charcoal filter (search for rectangular ones on Amazon). I placed it directly under the vent with enough room to open and close the vent, although if you wanted it to vent better you could affix it somewhere else under the lid. I didn't want the odors coming through the vent holes which is why I placed it directly under the vent.Another complaint was the size--this is one gallon many others are bigger. If you want one to sit on top of the counter bigger is fine. But even 1 gallon gets fairly heavy so attached to a cabinet door one gallon is probably best. Also, it depends on family size--there are only 2 of us so we go a week or so before having to empty it. And I'm not sure you want to go even that long frankly. If there is one criticism I would make is there is no compartment for holding charcoal filters. That would have made this the PERFECT choice. The double-sided tape to affix the filters works fine though so no big deal.

Rectangle Shape Better than Round
Reviewing: 'Joseph Joseph 30046 Compo Easy-Fill Compost Bin Food Waste Caddy with Adjustable Air Vent, 1 gallon'.I'll start with the CONS: - Does not prevent fruit flies even with the vent closed- It does not fit on the door of my freezer which I was hoping forPROS: Convenient flip top lidRectangle shape a plus since I can easily scrape scraps from a dinner plate into itCarry handle nice for transporting to compost area outdoorsEasy to cleanOdors contained (although I empty it often enough)The entire top part slides off when you are ready to empty it so the scraps slide out easilyAll in all I am happy with this compost bin. Previous to this one I had a round stainless compost bin that had a carry handle and a filter in the lid. It too would get fruit flies. I am much happier with this bin because I find the rectangle shape and size work better for me. I need to empty it every other day or so ...as I did the with the one I owned previously. For now I have this bin placed temporarily on the countertop but plan on attaching it to the lower cabinet door under the sink. … when I get around to it. :) Just wanted to be sure I was pleased with it before doing so. I am.

I love the shape!
Sent right away! Even with our world wide pandemic, they got this to me within the stated time! I researched these bins for days/hours to find the one I thought was the best for my purpose. I like this one! The best thing about this bin is the shape! I don't often use my garbage disposal because our plumbing is older. So instead of putting my onion and garlic cuttings in my regular garbage for several days to smell up the house, I used to put it in an empty garbage container. That had issues. Not attractive, hard to fit the food in from the plate or cutting board and had to use two hands to open it up. THIS IS THE PERFECT BIN for these reasons! Attractive on the counter, the best shape because it fits the width of the plate so some food isn't falling onto the counter and it is super easy to open with a finger! It will eventually get hung up on the lower cabinet door. My only issue is the placement of the hanger. It's too high so it needs to be hung on the thin part of the door which isn't possible without the screws going through the door. I'll revisit this review when I figure that out. Smells stay inside if the vent is shut. I love it!

smart design. overcomes the flaws of most others i've tried
I admittedly haven't always been the best composter, so i will share what helped re-form my habits in hopes it helps someone else build better habits. why did i suck so bad at composting? bad reason... because I've always disliked my compost containers. too big... too small... too tall... too hard to open.. too inconvenient... too smelly... dumb shape/size... too many flies... too ugly... you name it, not a good excuse, but for me it's hard to re-form habits if the solution doesn't fit into the workflow well and causes frustration. i've tried tall garbage can ones, pretty ceramic ones, a bowl on the counter, a bucket with a screw lid, a stainless food insert form the restaurant with a lid, all had significant (enough) problems that would lead to frustration when the time came to use. so I'd do it, but kinda half-assedly. recently tho, I got this handy little bin and it's really been a game changer in re-forming my habits. why do i like it so much?...it's a good size, 1 gal. not too big that you put off dumping it in a timely manner but not so small that you can't cook anything without filling it up. and if your're cooking so much one day that it is actually too small, then i just keep a bowl on the counter just for the day's cook and dump it right away.it's narrow, wide and deep, which is nice because it doesn't take up much room on the counter and it's width makes it nice for scraping off plates. but its not so deep its uncomfortably high like many of the ones on the market. and not so deep you're grossed out pushing down the contents to make more room.if you don't like it on the counter, it has a nifty handy hanging bracket so you can put it behind a cabinet door or the side of an island. the handle makes it quick to grab to bring to the counter when you're doing a cooking project and quick to put back out of sight when you don't want the clutter.this is a big one for me.. it has a flip lid, so you don't have to put the gross, wet, bacteria laden lid on the countertop. it's easy to open with your hand or the rim of a plate and since its attached, frees up both hands for scraping.you can use it with or without a liner. the bags that it uses are on the spendy side, but the composable meat and produce bags at trader joe's (maybe elsewhere) fit perfectly so at least you can get double use of them (and they're free). other cheap bags probly work too but might be too big which brings it's own set of problems. so i buy theirs and fill in with the free ones from trader joes when i have'em on hand.the removable lid conceals the bag overhang, keeps the bag in place and makes it easy to clean.easy to wash. does NOT have a filter. I do NOT like ones with filters. filters provides a nice nesting medium for fly larvae and breeding ground for bacteria with will just make it stink up faster in the first place.the nice thing about models with filters is that they allow airflow, which keeps the moisture down, which slows down the bacterial growth. but they don't really do this enough to overcome the bigger flaws. this one has a little slider, so if you want air movement, you can slide it open, but i find that the bin is a small enough size and doesn't necesitate worrying about this so i keep it closed.durable.reasonable price... @$20 it's more than a bucket, but less than some i've looked at. i am more than happy to spend a little more on something that is well designed and more likely to be used.they make two versions.the one i'm yappin' about is the door mountable one. the other one is a squarer countertop one with a filter. that one is NOT the one i recommend.

Good design
I was using an old ice bucket lined with a grocery bag for kitchen scraps previously which I thought was fine. But then I got this. This design is much better than my garage sale ice bucket; specifically, that this is as wide as a dinner plate makes for easier corralling of scraps. The vent holes that can be open or closed to prevent condensation or odors are handy. Perhaps a bit pricey for a handled plastic container with vent holes but a very good design.

Checks all the boxes
This is an awesome kitchen compost bin- the door mount bracket lets you hang this inside a cabinet door and get the compost bin off the counter. Bracket comes with two very short screws so they won't go through the cabinet door- The shape and size are very good for not interfering with other things stored under the kitchen sink cabinet- The handle allows bin to be easily lifted and brought outside to empty- It is fits onto the bracket both ways so it is easy to rehang, and you can have the lid swing whichever direction works best for you- The lid easily flips back and forth so it is easy to open & close, stays open and attached to the bin when needed- The rim the lid is attached to comes off of the bin so that you can easily clean both the bin and the lid/rim and there are no crevices to keep clean- The 1 gallon size is just rightVERY PLEASED with this - going to Google which other products this company makes...

The perfect compost bin
I searched everywhere for a good compost bin that checks off all my requirements: sleek looking, not bulky, perfect griege colour, lid does not fall off like the ikea ones, perfect size - not too big or small, holds garbage bag down, lid is removable, good quality, easy to clean, can attach to cabinet doors. This is definitely an Amazon Must-Have!
