Great solution for pool owners who cant discharge backwash easily
Does a great job, once you set it up right - filters most DE from the backwash water, and handles my pump's volume very well. Don't rely on the cinch cord to do the job - a large enough pipe clamp does the trick for me. Be sure to even out the filter material around the clamp and it'll work well - leaving a small crimp or fold can cause some DE to leak out, but even then it does the job.If you're confused about dumping the used DE from the filter, I put a 2-foot piece of 1 1/2 inch PVC in a loop of rope hung in my equipment area, then hung the filter bag to dry for a day or so with a bucket under the open end to catch dirty water. When dry, the large clumps of DE can be shaken out into a trash bag easily enough. My first one lasted 3 seasons, so at this price it's a real value. In hindsight I should have replaced it sooner, since when it fails, the filter tear will dump DE in your yard, so I recommend regular replacement - I'd guesstimate they're good for a dozen or so back-washes if handled correctly.

Ripped on first use.
Ripped wide open on first use. Can't return anymore. Pretty disappointing quality.

keeps back yard clean
Makes cleaning the filter so much easier because don't have the D.E. all over the place. We have two of these now because each time I use it new holes appear and we take our time to patch it and swap. Our filter just drains to the back yard and this eliminates the mess and cleanup.

DE fine dust escaped sock and excreted milky back wash water into drum.
Back washed into a drum, hoping I could pour the salt water back into the pool, but was unable to due to the sock not catching the fine DE particles. Will still use the sock to capture DE for proper disposal, but won't be able to re-use water as I had hoped. I'll need to find a fine-filter to filter the backwash water for re-use.Sock still caught a great deal of larger material, ~1' worth of stuff at bottom of the sock after a quick backwash. I didn't run it long since my drum filled up faster than expected. My seeing-eye glass showed that there was still room for additional back washing, but I'll need multiple drums in order to do that.I'm currently allowing it to dry to see if what it caught was DE or junk, I assume a little of both; just not the fine particles of DE.Until I can filter the drum water fully I won't be able to re-use it.

It works. Learn the tricks to cleaning the sock.
Putting DE into streets or around wildlife is not safe and in some cases, it's illegal to drop this into the street and into the sewer system. The sock worked well for me (2 inch pipies). Once you're done backwashing I would suggest taking the sock off, holding it uptight so DE goes to bottom of sock, then laying it flat in the sun to dry. After about a day you can dump it into a bag and then into the garbage. If it gets too dry you'll need to wear a mask to avoid breathing DE.

Use a couple panty hose instead!
Like many say, they cannot take the pressure of a backwash and fail. They just do not pass enough water thru the sock fibers and ultimately burst. I'd pass on this and use a couple cheap panty hose, one inside the other, or spandex leggings. They work quite well especially if you use a backwash hose to a remote discharge area. They are cheaper as well.

This thing is awesome
This is awesome, works great catching all the DE. Before it ran down the driveway into the street making a huge mess, and embarrassing eyesore. But now it’s all contained.

Must Have for DE Filter Owners
They need to put this back on the market. They can double or triple the price if that is what it takes. This was an absolute must have.
