Limited Hardware
Due to USB 2.0 limitations, you can't get full-speed video out of this. Inputting 1080p60 video, I get 5fps:$ ffplay /dev/video2Input #0, video4linux2,v4l2, from '/dev/video2':B sq= 0B f=0/0 Duration: N/A, start: 4156475.156239, bitrate: 165888 kb/s Stream #0:0: Video: rawvideo (YUY2 / 0x32595559), yuyv422, 1920x1080, 165888 kb/s, 5 fps, 5 tbr, 1000k tbn, 1000k tbcIt goes up to 10fps if I downsample the resolution to 720p.However, if you use the mjpeg compressed output, it is fairly decent. I get 1080p30. This comes with artifacts, seems to be especially bad with motion (surprising, didn't think mjpeg cared).$ ffplay -f video4linux2 -video_size 1920x1080 -input_format mjpeg /dev/video2Input #0, video4linux2,v4l2, from '/dev/video2':B sq= 0B f=0/0 Duration: N/A, start: 4157702.080052, bitrate: N/A Stream #0:0: Video: mjpeg, yuvj422p(pc, bt470bg/unknown/unknown), 1920x1080, 30 fps, 30 tbr, 1000k tbn, 1000k tbc

Fantastic for under $10!
I have been playing video games and streaming online for a long time but was PC and I wanted to start showcasing console gaming and I am perfectly aware of the popular video card used by many people, and in the past year, there have been a major change. For one, they have found a way to make the streaming cards in a USB video capture card but possibly within the last few months, the price has dropped considerably. The following adapter I am reviewing is not a USB card like others I have reviewed. This one has a cable, so it’s kind of like a USB dongle. So, as a test…I connected my Nintendo Switch its dock, connected the HDMI to the HDMI Audio Video Capture Device and fired up OBS (a free Open Broadcast Software) which is great for video streaming on Facebook, Twitch, YouTube, etc.And sure enough, my laptop detected it and I was able to stream online. It is plug and play and it works!!!Now with that being said, there are a few things you should know:For video, it features 1080p 30fps and supports input max resolution 3840 x 2160 @ 30Hz and output max resolution of 1920×1080 @30Hz. It’s not 4K, it’s 1080p.As for audio (a lot of people don’t know the settings have to be changed for OBS), this is what you have to do:Create a Video Capture Device and for device, if not select yet, select USB Video. For Audio, select on Audio Output Mode, choose Direct Sound and check “Use Custom Audio Device”.And that’s it!!!I was surprised of how well this device worked and the biggest shock…it’s under $10!!!So, if you are looking for a much cheaper alternative to live stream (or record) your gaming videos, for the price, you can’t really beat this capture device, especially at under $10! Definitely worth checking out!
