I recently purchased a vehicle that has some great patina and even some bare spots. Since I was moving it from a very dry area to a wetter region, I wanted to capture the current patina but make sure it doesn't rust away. I watched the videos on the product and went to the company website for preparation as I had never done this before. In one of the videos and on the advert for Amazon they stated it could be brushed on without brush marks. That statement is incorrect in my opinion. I applied two coats to everything using xylene to thin it out as per their recommendation. I had very distinctive brush marks afterwards. I was able to cut it back with a series of wet sanding but it is still present. That being said, I was going back and forth of sanding it back even further to get a matte finish & removing more marks, but ended up keeping it the way it is. I guess am I going for the $100 paint job look which will be the next greatest thing. Despite the marks, the Diamondfinish really made the existing paint and patina pop. Water was beading on the surface without a coat of wax. The 32 oz can covered a '72 CJ5 with two coats including the roll bar and bed region. I am purchasing another can because I want to use it on the back of the dash and the inside firewall to continue to protect the patina.

I was trying to decide between this product and Rust Bullet Clear Shot and can't remember why I chose KBS over Rust Bullet. Both products have a noxious chemical odor and require an incredible degree of ventilation during and after application but I have used Rust Bullet numerous times around the house and it stops off-gassing after about 8-10 hours if not sooner. Unless you can leave your home for a couple of days I would not recommend using KBS DiamondFinish on anything inside a house that people are living in. My family is extremely upset with me and I still have one more coat to apply! We all have headaches and sore throats due to the KBS fumes even with an extraction fan running around the clock and windows open for cross ventilation. I don't even know if this product will survive the test of time but simply the fumes alone and the fact that it should not be used for indoor projects are enough of a reason for me to give it a low rating. I would recommend Rust Bullet Clear Shot as an alternative. I painted an outdoor bench with Clear Shot and it's holding up exceptionally well and looks great. update: I reduced my rating to one star since the KBS coating I applied is still releasing noxious fumes four days after application! I have never used a product that smells this bad for such a long time. I decided to not use KBS for any additional coats and will switch to Rust Bullet clear shot instead. However, the length of time it is taking the KBS coating to fully cure and stop smelling is seriously impeding the progress of my project. final update: called KBS repeatedly about my issues with their product and everyone I spoke to at the company was extremely knowledgable and kind to me. I am still confused why the KBS coating took so long to cure and stop smelling. Supposedly it cures faster with high humidity and I was using it during a rainy period in damp/humid San Francisco, CA. In the end, in order to speed up the curing process, I had to open windows to the outside on rainy days to bring in damp air as well as run a fan blowing air over the stairs I was painting. Even with all of this - the KBS continued to smell for an entire nine days after initial application! After that I had to just move ahead with the work and prep and coat the KBS with Rust Bullet Clear Shot. I would never recommend a coating that takes so long to cure and smells so noxious. My project was held up for well over a week due to my decision to use KBS. I switched to Clear Shot and the noxious fumes were gone within 5-8 hours after application and my project is finally moving forward.

Awesome clear coat, you will need to lay it on thick, but don’t be shy. Once it thickens up, you’ll see it flash and level out. Worked amazing for us. New favorite clearcoat!

This stuff is absolutely amazing for coating fishing lures, but its not cost effective unless you are using the bulk of the can in a short period of time. You simply cannot store the portion you don't use for long before it starts to turn to jelly. You can try the mason jar or other tricks, but this stuff just doesn't hold up long once you open the can. So...you end up wasting 50-75% of the can. I'd only recommend this stuff for people who go through it fast. PS - Jellification aside, its the best lure coating I've used in terms of durability.

Let me start off with that I'm not a painter. I purchased the 32oz can and I poured some in a separate cup. I then applied with a microfiber sponge and it didn't go as expected. The stuff went on thick and as soon as it goes on you can not work with this stuff out of the can. As for self leaving, it didnt work at all. There was a few areas that went on thinner but left lines so i though it would level out because it says it will but it didn't. I did more research after the fact and people are saying to thin it out before using it. This stuff does look good and it gets hard but make sure you use xlyene or whatever else that painters use to thin it out. This is why I gave 4 stars because the product doesn't say to thin it out before using it, unless I skipped over that part.
