Thrilling and Timely!
I picked this book originally kind of on a lark. I saw it and thought, 'this might be interesting enough to keep me occupied for a couple of hours.' Much to my surprise, this book turned into a can't-put-it-down kind of read from about paragraph 3 on.Having served in the US Air Force and having some knowledge of the Office of Special Investigations (OSI), I really didn't expect much from this series. To have the stage set with the character 'in-country' during war time taking an active part in fighting was a surprise to me. I thought it rather a bold and ingenious move on Mr. Cameron's part. This tale with middle eastern terror as the centerpiece plot line was very well developed, paced tremendously well, and was executed flawlessly I thought. The manner in which the tale unravels was top shelf. This book is well written, timely, and has very interesting characters -- in addition to edge of your seat action. I very much recommend giving it a read!

More Plot Please.
This is the second or third Jericho Quinn book I've read and it feels like the author is still trying to introduce his regular cast of characters. Realizing that authors can't assume the reader has read earlier work, some backstory is expected, but each book I've read seems to be heavy on character description at the sake of plot development. Having cut my teeth on Robert Ludlum, he was able to add backstory in the context of the new plot line for his reoccurring characters without spending time reintroducing them each book.Having said that, Cameron writes a good tale and it's worth the read. I just need more plot immersion and less character description.

Good to start with Book 1 of Cameron's series
After reading Brute Force and Field of Fire, I decided to start with Cameron's book 1. The key characters and their relationships have more definition this way. Good to learn that Quinn earned a Fulbright fellowship, among other credentials. Before I forget, 94% of the way through the kindle version, Quinn grabs a helicopter ride. However, the text suddenly turns: "Mahoney had shown enough forethought to bring his M4 when they'd jumped in the rental car and it hung loaded...." Problems include mode of transportation and a pronoun no where near its noun. Not unique to Cameron, the word ONLY gets misplaced many times. Oh well. The notion that a weaponized virus could threaten the world's population has been documented; Cameron cites Laurie Garret's The Coming Plague as one nonfiction source. Even though the good guys stopped the Pandora threat, the CDC and UN need to be alert. The Epilogue includes a bad guy plotting, thus setting the stage for book 2.

OUTSTANDING
It's so refreshing to read an action/military writer that actually knows what they're writing about. Thank you Marc Cameron. National Security was a joy to read. Character driven, great pacing, well structured and above all...entertaining. Loved the big Cajun jarhead too. Oorah!Marc has a Burroughs flair, and I'm a huge ERB fan. Cameron follows his dictum of tell an interesting story entertainingly. I thought it humorous some reviewer mildly complained about the editing or grammar. If there were problems...I didn't notice them because Cameron just tells the damn story and that's why I buy a book. Keep 'em coming.Ken Farmer - Author - the Black Eagle Force and The Nations series.

Overall An Enjoyable Read
A leading member of a new global task force to fight terrorism that does not exist, Special Agent Jericho Quinn is an Air Force vet, champion boxer and, of course, an assassin. Quinn and his badass (and quite humorous) Cajun partner, Thibodaux, are tasked to stop a bioterrorism threat where the odds are really stacked against them. The plot has some twists, there is pretty good pacing and fairly good character development for the main ones in the story. There are, indeed, some far-fetched things that happen, but that is pretty much the case with any fiction book nowadays. But, as I am reading for escapism, that doesn't really matter too much to me anymore. While Cameron is not in the same league as Vince Flynn, Daniel Silva, or some of the other leading names in political/espionage thrillers, this is a good start for a recurring character, especially as the epilogue sets up the next volume. It is not a book that I would classify as a page turner I couldn't put down (which is a five star for me) but, overall, it was an enjoyable read.

A promising start.
Marc Cameron introduces Jericho Quinn - an Air Force captain with very special skills. Quinn has an ex-wife and a five-year-old daughter, but spends his life protecting others. Quinn is dark skinned and speaks fluent Arabic so the war on terror frequently calls.A Saudi sheik has developed a biological weapon that he intends to unleash on American soil. Quinn has to stop him.The series has promise but the author is not quite as accomplished as the masters of this genre - Silva and Flynn. Hoping he improves his craft, his storytelling is first rate.RECOMMENDED.

WHAT A VISUAL READ
National Security was one of the most frightening I have yet read about the Middle East and the horrendous people who do not like Americans....as much as I enjoyed it, frankly I could not handle it all in one sitting. Because somehow I believe that the horrific things that are developed and used against us in the book could and may soon be possible. Mr. Cameron is very descriptive - and as I read I literally could envision the events as they happened, his writing is purely visual - that is what took me so long to finish it. There were nights, frankly, that I could not sleep - for those visions coming to me - do not get me wrong - if you enjoy books by Brad Thor, David Balducci, Vince Flynn and Kyle Mills this book is for you. I will read another of Mr. Cameron's of course - right now I am into Brad Thor's Foreign Influence.........

Jam-packed
Fast-paced, loads of action, not a dull moment to be found. This was a change from my usual, first Marc Cameron I've read, and I enjoyed it immensely. If you are interested in the U.S. military, stories about terrorism, the Middle East, and love a hero, I recommend this book.
