Works great
Love it. Can use lots of foreign high-wattage products. I use it for blenders, food processers, etc that I brought back with me when moving back to the USA.

Heavy duty but noisy
Works as expected but has a very loud hum. Not very good when I have have hi fi stuff plugged in as can hear the transformer humming.

A Good Product Sort For around The World
The Transformer is being used in Ghana for ceiling fans because the fans were made in America. And the power source is 240 w in Ghana, so I am stepping it down to 110 for the ceiling fans.

Beware: Dangerously mis-wired
I recently purchased three transformers including this 3000W Simran unit. Being an Electrical Engineer I tested all three out before plugging any equipment into them. This Simran transformer was miswired, with the hot and neutral leads reversed on the input, and a poor ground connection. Thus the hot and neutral are also reversed on the output when in pass through. Stepping up from 110 to 220V gives you 220V across the two output lines, but each has 110V to ground, similar to US split phase 220. Even worse, stepping down from 220V to 110V gives you 110V from hot to ground, and 110V from hot to neutral, but neutral has 220V to ground! The ground connection from the input to the output was made through one of the mounting bolts, but isolation washers were used and the case is painted, so there was about 8kohms between the ground pins on the input and output, and the case was essentially floating. I can excuse the mis-wiring as bad quality control, but the grounding is simply a bad design. It was trivial for me to reverse the wiring and kluge a solid ground, and now it seems like a decent transformer for my purposes. However, I would strongly discourage everyone from purchasing this line of Simran transformers due to the poor grounding. Poor quality control seems to be the norm for all manufacturers of cheap transformers on Amazon, so I would not recommend that you buy any other cheap transformer on Amazon if you don't follow what I described above and feel comfortable enough with a multimeter to test the transformer before use.

Will start a 1/2 hp motor
I used this to run a 240-volt pump in an emergency when I only had 120 V available. It had no problem starting a 1/2 HP motor.

Substantially good product
My wife bought me this autotransformer in order to operate my italian hi-fi equipment, working at 230 V, 500 VA maximum power in total. This autotransformer works good but the central cover vibrates a lot producing hum: I tryed to mechanically insulate the transformer from the table with a piece of polystyrene put under the transformer, the hum was lower but the only good solution was to remove the central cover. The transormer, after the removal, is not bad at all at my wife's eyes and the hum is now acceptable, barely audible, much lower than its original annoying level. Also I changed the european plug to a domestic one. These operations were not too complicate but you must be aware what is to be done. How could this autotransformer be improved? First of all, please, close the magnetic circuit with the last "I" of the iron core that are missing. Then, even if the step-up voltage is very accurate, a trimming option of +/- 5% and +/- 10% would be very welcome and, since this transformer runs a lot more than warm, I should say about hot even without any load, a version designed on lower iron induction whith a external short-circuit tinsel ring would be very appreciated even if more expensive. However it is a good product as is, we are satisfied with this item that allows us to listen to music!

You get what you pay for. Not wired correctly, not grounded correctly.
There is another review that also states this device is not wired correctly and not grounded properly, I agree. I am an electrical engineer and read the other persons review prior to purchasing and expected to have to re-wire the device which placed the hot and neutral lines incorrectly. Also the grounding from the line to the plug in side is done via the core with places to much resistance between the two, so I just disconnected the grounds and added a wire. Its an ok value if you can do this yourself. Also the transformer loss at idel is about 0.3Amps.

Maybe a bit bulky and heavy, but that also means it'l handle real 3kva power
