Care for a Morning Glory Cocktail, a Blue Blazer, or a Philadelphia Julep? Recipes for these and hundreds of other tasty libations appear in this landmark volume. Originally published in 1862, Jerry Thomas' Bartenders Guide is widely considered by drink historians as the first serious American book on cocktails and punches. "A new beverage is the pride of the bartender, and its appreciation and adoption his crowning glory," declared Jerry Thomas (1830–85), the most famous bartender of his era. Known as "the father of American mixology," Thomas developed the showy techniques practiced at his saloons throughout California and New York. From hot whiskey toddies to wedding punch to "temperance drinks," this extensive compilation of timeless recipes will delight modern-day mixologists and their guests. "There are so many bartending recipes in this book, it's doubtful you'll need any other guide." — The Paperback Stash. Review: Cool book for cocktail and history fans - Great historical reference, with many recipes that have fallen out of common use in current times. Also different proportions compared to modern interpretations of many recipes, which gives insight into changing tastes and/or changes in ingredients. Since this is a reprint, it would be nice to have an addendum that details how to convert archaic measurement conventions to modern units. Review: Great! - As advertised!

Actually the 1887 edition
This is a perfectly passable reprint of one of history's most important cocktail manuals. But, buyer beware, this is the 1887 edition of the book, revised by an anonymous editor after Thomas's death. If you're a serious cocktail nerd like me it's worth owning both this later revision and the original 1862. But it's deceptive that it says 1862 on the cover and in the description, when it's actually the 1887 version.

Jerry Thomas' Bartenders Guide: How to Mix All Kinds ...
Jerry Thomas' Bartenders Guide: How to Mix All Kinds of Plain and Fancy Drinks by Jerry Thomas is a free NetGalley ebook that I read on July 1st (Canada Day). Originally published by, yup, Jerry Thomas in 1862, not a lot has changed behind a bar, aside from more fruit, imported liqueurs (aside from bitters, vermouth, and Curaçao, which are quite prevalent in these recipes), a greater amount of mixers, and, most importantly, NO EGGS.

Buena edición y calidad.
Del padre de la Cocteleria, es un insulto no valorar positivamente esta obra de arte de la Cocteleria. Indispensable en la casa de un barman.

Great for beginners and advanced
I have my own homebar for half a year now. And I tried out a lot of books. But I have to say that this is one of the best books in my collection. It gives you the most important rules at the beginning and then directly the recipe to your cocktails with some good Tips. It doesn't dance around. But if you like story to your cocktails this is not the right book.
