I cant believe I have missed out on percolator coffee all my life!
First off, this is well made. Great shape, all steel, and well designed. It can be hung over a fire or I just put it on the camp chef as that's how I'll be using it most often. I measured everything so I could leave an informed review. A bit more than 8 cups of water fit in here when making coffee, because the rest of the volume is taken by the percolator basket. You'll see when you remove the basket there is a little metal ring on the top of the spout that goes down into the pot. Don't have your water going above that ring. That ring holds the grounds basket. Based on that amount of water, I coarsely ground the coffee (Coarse, like there were a few whole beans left and that was ok. Coarse keeps less grounds from going in the pot.) and measured 16 tablespoons of ground, and put that in the basket. Then, time to turn on the heat. Go high to begin with. After a few minutes (time varies based on your heat source) I saw clear water in the glass cap. A minute or 2 later the water was a little brown. From that point on I went about 5 more minutes. I think it could go longer too, which I'll experiment with. I had to turn the heat down at that point as it was boiling too fast and overflowed a little. It responded as soon as I turned the heat down and didn't overflow anymore. Next time I would turn the heat to medium or medium low as soon as water is seen in the glass cap. I'm using a 30,000 btu stove, remember that. Anyway, then I poured it into a mug. Looked good, smelled good. Had to wait a while to be cool enough to drink. The taste was less burnt and acid than typical coffee and more creamy and rich. Holy moly! So good! You can't make a half pot or the hydraulics of the little steam engine that is your percolator won't work. So I have some coffee for later. I might buy a smaller pot too, for when it's just me. I am very impressed!

I love this percolator!!
I really need to write a review about this percolator because I am very impressed with it.1. It is very pretty and shiny to look at. I love how it looks in my kitchen.2. It works well on either my two burner elite gourmet electric cooking rings or on my butane camping stove. I have not yet tried it on a camp fire.3. There are no measurements on 14 cup percolator but I use an old Mr Coffee water holder to judge how much water I am putting in. Easy for me to do because I am using in the house. I have an approximate idea now how much water that is so I could do it without the water holder probably now.4. The coffee tastes wayyyyyyy better than the Mr Coffee5. Everything about it is well made and fits smoothly together6. I am using it every day not just for camping - yes I like it that much and I am now planning to buy another for camping!7. It will still work just as well even when we only put 9 cups in it. We remove the coffee grain holder and heat up the remaining coffee we dont use in the morning later in the afternoon and it still tastes good.

Well made and a great investment!
I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of this coffee pot, as well as the thickness (gauge) of the stainless steel. Even the internal basket parts are made of thicker than expected stainless steel. Should last for years.I have used it on my electric range, and gas camping stove, and it worked well on both, although it heated up a little faster on the gas stove. I have used it with perculator in place, as well as without it (to make cowboy coffee). Worked great both ways. The handle stays surprisingly cool, and the bail is nice to help pour when it is full, or when using over a campfire.Capacity with the basket in place is 8 cups (measured), 14 cups without it.3 year update: I have used this everyday for 3 years now, and it still looks like new. This was a great investment. I'm sure my children and grandchildren will be using this long after I'm gone.I've used it on a coil type electric range, a glass top electric range, gas camping stove, gas range, and over a campfire, and it worked well in every case.UPDATE: After 4 years of daily use, it's still going strong, with no issues or complaints. Cleans up well even after using over a campfire. Ditched my drip style coffeemakers. I recommend this product to everyone who enjoys coffee.

Replacing my automatic drip
I have been using an electric espresso maker for years and while I have replaced it a couple of times, I thought it is time for a stovetop coffee maker that I could use when the power goes out, and take camping. This coffee pot is perfect for these occasions with it's quality construction and not needing paper filters.BUT... I did go through a learning curve to make good coffee in this pot. There are no instructions to help with determining the coffee-water ratio along with the best grind, heat level and cooking time. I had to scour the internet for differing opinions and do my own trial and error to figure out what works for me. Once I got it down, I enjoyed good basic coffee (way better than the automatic drip) that stays drinkably warm for oh, I'd say about 40ish minutes. I find that a reasonable amount of time, or it can be easily and quickly warmed right in the pot later. The coffee grounds cannot be too fine or you will definately get alot of them in the bottom of the pot. The grounds basket must be removed after brewing to prevent the condensed moisture to continue dripping through the grounds, rendering the coffee bitter. Care must be taken in how long it brews, the coffee can burn easily. The thing that did not work for me is that I thought I could make only a 1/4 pot for just myself on a daily basis and still have the 8 cup capacity for when I have visitors. Not so. The pot must be at least 1/2 full to percolate. I'm guessing this is probably true of all percolator pots (this is my first). And although I enjoy basic coffee, 4 cups is a bit much for me and my husband usually gets coffee at work. Besides, we really love espresso, which cannot be done in this pot. I tried making the coffee overly strong, but it just came out bitter. So, I am looking into a stovetop espresso maker. I am happily keeping this pot for company, getting rid of my big 12 cup automatic drip, and I have a pot to take camping. Oh, and my counter top looks bigger and neater without the electric unit with its cord taking up space.

ein MUST HAVE für's Lagerfeuer

Outstanding!
I've experienced two other percolating coffee pots which always used to boil over into the flame no matter what. This however is simply brilliant. No overflow, no aluminum and no fuss. I highly recommend.

Campfire coffee pot
Love this when away camping....it works better on a campfire than it does on my hob at home but I only really need it when away for the morning coffee fix.
