A marked improvement on the stock tubes that came with my Fosi P3 preamplifier , these tubes have really improved the sound without adding too much distortion that the original tubes did. The sound now has the warm and clean Marantz sound, precise soundstage with a bit more tubiness. I was a little concerned by some reviews that said the tubes were not actual vintage tubes but these clearly state that they are made in the USA. They seem well matched to each other as the ad said with both channels the same volume and tone. I've now listened to them for a few hours now and the tubes are an absolute pleasure. This little amp and now these tubes have really breathed new life and feel to my stereo and I'm looking forward rediscovering my collection.

Bought these military version 5654W tubes for a new preamp that came with stock Chinese 6J1 tubes - they are fine in audio equipment, but the vintage GE tubes are superior in the areas of imaging, retrieval of low-level details and soundstage depth/clarity. I made the same tube substitution with a ChiFi DAC/HP Amp a few years ago, and they did audibly improve the sound in the areas mentioned, although it is a subtle difference that casual listeners would likely not hear. Where it really makes a difference is with a pair of high quality headphones or IEMs, or good studio monitors in a near-field listening set-up. The tubes arrived a couple weeks before the preamp, and I haven't yet swapped them in. I will update my review once I have installed the GE tubes and let them 'burn-in' for a few days. Tubes like this are one of the few positive remnants of the Cold War - even vintage Soviet military vacuum tubes from the 60s to 70s are good for preamps and front-stages in all kinds of amplifiers.
