The outside is under 7.5".BUT it says it'll hold a standard 8" board from Home Depot/Lowe's. Absolutely won't.... The board in the picture is exactly 8"

Package arrived a day early (bonus).Brackets are a matte black powder coat color, knowing this I bought them anyway because of the weight rating and size. I sanded them and painted them to match our decor, they are mounted and will probably last longer than the house. Will probably buy another set later on in a smaller size for other walls and rooms. Nice to have a extra level to help with the install.... Screws and hardware all accounted for..

This is a very study set of brackets that will be very easy to install once I get to this step. They look very nice and well made. The problem I’m having with them is that the shelf opening is larger than the listed 7 1/4 inches. I got my 2x8’s from the local Home Depot and before even sanding they were too narrow for the brackets. I’m pretty particular about my projects being as close to perfect as they can be and even if I wasn’t so particular I still think there would be too much slack. I really like these brackets and I’m going to keep them anyway. I’ll buy some 2x10’s and rip them down to size, but the added expense is something I’m not too happy about.

The shelves were well worth the money compared to others I’ve seen online. However the only reason I gave it 4 stars is because it didn’t fit my shelves from ikea. Instead of shipping them back, I put them up the opposite direction which was a perfect solution for me, but I’d rather them fit the shelves. Must use a 7.25 “ shelf….not 8 “. Other than that, I was satisfied with its sturdiness. I built a bar in my apartment and had quite a few bottles that needed support; worked perfect considering I didn’t test how much weight the shelves would actually be able to take. It’s safe to stay the can hold up some weight.

These are some thick steel! Very strong. I bought these to hang a center channel speaker under a wall mounted TV and it worked flawlessly. These are just the brackets which is what I was looking for so the speaker cabinet sits directly on the shelf brackets instead of needing a shelf board to sit on. This made the install very sleek and looks like the speaker is floating under the tv.
