General Finishes Water Based Dye, 1 Pint, Orange

It's very watery so care is needed not to drip everywhere. Definitely use a plastic drop cloth. I think it would also be hard to give a light color without diluting with water. I needed to apply a heavy coat to get an even color coverage. I used a sponge brush and it was easy to apply once I quickly got the hang of it. Clean up was very easy. I used the orange color and am very pleased with the rich, mellow result. It looks expensive. Yes, it's orange but mellowed and not glaring at all. Certainly doesn't look like orange paint. I stained and polyurethaned two large Ikea bedroom chests of drawers. Took me three quarts each of stain and polyurethane. A wonderful alternative to the gray-washed furniture that's pervasive now.

Beautiful stain. The color is deep and easy to apply. I ordered a red stain from another company recently and the difference in quality was significant. General Finishes makes quality products that perform well.

i wanted orange for my boy's guitar. its paulownia wood and MAN this stuff is ORANGE. I'll be ordering some more colors for sure. great stuff.

This is a cool product. On lighter wood the orange is really bright and stands out great with only a few coats. I added a coat polyurethane and it looks great.

Just an awesome product. All general finishes products are great, but their water based stains, dyes, and polys are just awesome. I ordered the medium brown and the orange dye stains to mix together to achieve the color I was after. By far the best quality wood staining product I have used. I was staining some speaker stands made out of birch and anyone who has ever stained birch knows how sketchy it can be when it comes to the way it takes stains and dyes. I also used this on some a console table top built out of poplar. Another wood that can is unpredictable in the way it takes stain. This products worked great. I used a mix of 5 parts medium brown and 4 parts orange. I sprayed each the dye on using my HPLV which I recommend if you are dying or staining blotch prone wood as the HVLP insures that the dye is absorbed evenly by the wood by laying on a nice consistent layer of dye over the surface. Some people use wood conditioners or shellac for blotch prone woods such as these to seal the wood a bit before applying the stain, but that makes achieving the rich dark finish that I desired impossible. On poplar I never use conditioners or sealers. As when I buy the wood, I make sure there is as little green in the wood as possible. Poplar always stains will with lighter colors, and for darker colors I usually opt for a nice water based dye sprayed on with an HPLV which works great.
