In The Talking Tree W.G. Gray presents an encyclopaedic and systematic analysis of the 22 Paths of the Qabalistic Tree of Life and the archetypal principles underlying them in each of the 'four worlds'. This unique work by a leading Qabalist of his generation includes a detailed and comprehensive study of the symbolism of the Tarot, in which he offers an alternative method of allocating the Major Arcana to the Paths in place of the commonly used Golden Dawn system. He also explains how the Western alphabet can be applied to the Tree of Life as a viable alternative to Hebrew letters. This book is a priceless reference work for the serious Qabalah student who has already studied the ten Sephiroth and is looking to move on to the Paths. As well as explaining the function of God-names, archangels, angelic orders and mundane archetypes for each Path, Gray seeks to demonstrate that the Tree of Life is in a continual state of growth and evolution, and that those who study and work with the Qabalah should not be afraid to apply new correspondences to it and rethink some of the traditional assumptions. Review: A path working masterpiece - Gray tarot association to the paths make the most sense to me, if you are intrested in the western tradition, but can't seem to make sense of Masonry or Golden Dawn, but are intrested in Qabala magic/mysticism then look no further. This book can really help you load the paths, I am 2/3rds of the way through this book and am already experiencing the Angels talking to me, form the inside out, it's really hard to explain what qabala magic does to you, once it gets inside of you it is very organicly psychedelic and your brain will feel like it is buzzing with clairity. If your thinking about getting into qabala, but don't feel quite safe with other qabala systems, look into this system, it's safe as milk, but once you've taisted it, you'll realize it's cosmic milk. There is one only one other Path working book out there on the market: "Fools Pilgramage", it's a golden dawn system book and this is not. I am betting there will be more reviews of this masterpiece, Here you learn how to load your major arcana on the Angelic level, the arch angelic level, the god name level and the planetary level. The only extra sugestion gray left out ;that fools pilgramage inclued, was information on astral travel (guided visualisation), in the later book they talk about going in the various Sephiroth Castels between the paths visualizations, this has turned out to be an absolute essentail peice of information for me on pathworking. Grays book THE LADDER OF LIGHTS, will fill in missing information, as will his book MAGICAL RITUAL METHODS. In a sense all 3 of these books work as one book. I hope this information is helpful, happy pathworking! Review: Understand the Paths in the Tree of Life/ Qabalah - I remember when reading Mystical Qabalah by Dion Fortune towards the end she talks about in the future they may put together a book going over the 22 paths in the Tree of Life. She never got the chance, but William Gray picked up where she left off and did an amazing job. This is a very dense explanation of the paths and their assigned Tarot trumps. Even if you are not into Tarot, the imagery and explanation are helpful assigning and recalling the meaning of the paths. Great companion book to Ladder of Lights and Mystical Qabalah to better understand the Tree and it's Paths. http://www.desertcart.com/Ladder-Lights-William-G-Gray/dp/0877285365/ref=sr_1_1?s=books&ie=UTF8&qid=1438516138&sr=1-1&keywords=ladder+of+lights

Ready to Begin in Ernest?
This book is indeed detailed and interesting, but if you are ready to begin reaching the Upper Worlds for yourself, I would recommend staring your journey at KabU: edu.kaballah.info It's free, it builds on itself and it is a true path toward learning Kaballah (the science of everything).

Excellent resource on Tarot and Qabalah.
This is a deep and thoughtful book, which has greatly added to my understanding of Tarot. It has taken my Tarot readings to a higher level of spirituality. I will consult this book for years to come. Not a quick read, but an important read.

Climbing The Path
One of the reasons I love the works of this author is that he has made seemingly complex spiritual writings so easy to follow. I could understand and practise most of it even as a "beginner" Kabbalist. The map of our return journey to the Divine has never been so clear.

... study of Qabalistic lore continues to serve as a brilliant guide to all of us today
William Gray was a serious Qabalist and his personal study of Qabalistic lore continues to serve as a brilliant guide to all of us today. Though he did study the Golden Dawn system of travelling on the Tree of Life, he branched out to place our Western alphabet (together with the traditionally used Hebrew letters) on the Paths. He also chose to change the position of some Path workings providing clear reasons for his preferences. Therefore, new students in the Golden Dawn system might find this book confusing. However, if you have already studied and travelled extensively so that you recognize your way on the Tree, you may find new information and wonder in following Gray's guide along the Tree that will certainly open new doors. As always, it is a matter of correspondences and if you can provide a reason for using certain correspondences they will work for you, but hardly ever as we presume to imagine. As above, so below, happy Path working and enjoy this wonderful work.
