CompTIA PenTest+ Study Guide: Exam PT0-002 (Sybex Study Guide)

I recently purchased this Pentest+ textbook and noticed upon arrival that the shrinkwrap was broken, making it look used. However, I decided to give the benefit of the doubt and rate it 5 stars for now, as the book itself appears to be in good condition.The main reason for my purchase was the included free access to the interactive online learning tool and the promised 10% voucher. If these features are unavailable or missing, I will reconsider my rating and likely return the product.For now, I’m hoping everything works as advertised. I’ll update this review once I verify the additional resources.

This book was easy to understand and helped me to pass the Pentest+. I highly recommend ANY learning materials produced by Mike Chapple.

This was the launch pad for me and I have one more chapter to go. For reference I have been in a security analyst position for roughly a year with an Associates and no prior certs. Bought the voucher today and this book paired with extra practice exams from Jason Dion on Udemy is perfect. Only recommend the extra exams as the Wiley online test bank uses the same questions. Leads me to memorizing the questions and not the content. Feel confident that I will pass the exam though.

Book was very well written and provided a lot of info that was covered in the new certification exam. I would recommend it as a study guide along with labs in one of the major ctf platforms (them or htb).

First I want to say, I usually swear by these books as this company has gotten me through A+, Network+, and Security+ with flying colors. However, this book is too general and not in-depth enough to pass the exam using only this book. The book and website’s test questions are too general compared to the actual exam. The book only scratches the surface of what you will need to know for the exam, especially about nmap, netcat, and scripts. After reading the whole book, taking notes, and scoring consistent 95% on the online test bank questions I took the exam and failed with a score of 729.I was shocked at how much harder and in-depth the actual exam questions were. I retook the exam after a month of using alternative material and practice tests and pasted the exam.If you want a basic understanding of penetration testing then this book is for you, but if you want to pass the exam don’t rely solely on this resource.

I used this book to prepare for the test and got a 759. (You need 750 to pass). Thankfully, I also have 22 years experience in cybersecurity which is what got me through. Lots of material on the test that is not covered in the book. This book glosses over topics that you must know in depth to pass. The authors tell you you don't have to be a coder to pass the test. LIE. The test had way too many questions about writing and reading code. The authors tell you you only need to know what the tools do. LIE. You have to know in-depth what various tools do and how to use each one. I would recommend buying the eBook offered directly from CompTIA which is what I will do next time.

Muy buen libro, compré el libro para usarlo en la materia que imparto de seguridad en la universidad, el temario esta muy completo, claro que debes tener nociones de seguridad y recomiendo primero el Security+. Tal vez del contenido creo que estaría bien un capitulo de pura explotación? Ya que se brinca directo de análisis de vulnerabilidades a post explotación. Ademas de que ofrece contenido extra de la página de willey brand aunque no lo he usado mucho, solo es mas interactivo. Además ofrece 10% de descuento para el examen, aunque hay un path de tryhackme que también te lo dá.

I use this product for the certification obviously and the knowledge is inside, however the text is small but readable, the paper is recycled paper (slightly grey instead of white) to save money.The reason why it's still 5 star is because I can't blame the manufacturer saving costs!! (which I rate 3 stars)For instance, a child put his greasy hands on my bookmark, and when I inserted it into the book, there is a mark that is not removable.

I've found the PenTest+ to be slightly more entry-level than I'd expected, but it's a great cert to brush up on actual day to day execution and this study guide covers the exam objectives well in my opinion - even where some of them are really straight-forward. My advice based on first-hand experience would be to combine this with a daily session of NMAP and you're onto a winner. The 'exam essentials' sections have a good high-level summary of the objectives and I've found it helpful to mark these with sticky tabs to let me brush-up on them and go back and deep dive the chapters if I wasn't feeling confident. Great guide, well written, good coverage - but supplement with lots more NMAP experience.
