The Agony And The Ecstasy

A Gem
Wonderful book, that immerses you in the life of Michaelangelo, gives an understanding of the order of his works, an appreciation of the pressures on him from his father and those who commissioned his creations. The workings of the wonderful artists of his time, the politics, religious fervour and the creation of sculptures brings to life Florence, Rome, Fiesole, the backdrops to his creativity. I am sure I shall re read this again and again, if you have visited Florence this book inspires a second visit to soak up the atmosphere and relive the experiences, so cleverly written. The fantastic buildings, churches and art all still there for us to appreciate.

Hard read
A lot of background detail and names to absorb but a very interesting read. Also a long read - thick book, small printIt has encouraged me to look up all the works of Michelangelo - far more than I ever imagined

Long, very long.
Very detailed, just not particularly interesting. Too long to get to any point.

Not as described.
The book was listed as "Very Good" condition. It is in fact very old with loose pages and old fashioned type. I would prefer to pay more for a quality product. This book is worthless.
