Very helpful for sibo
This is a very helpful book for SIBO sufferers. Clear and easy to read, providing details about the latest medical establishment understanding of SIBO and how to address it. I have been following the low fermentation diet with good results. I have had to modify it a little, but that's to be expected with anything SIBO-related since you really need to learn to listen to your body. I also appreciate that the book is written by Cedars Sinai researchers - actually GI doctors. I feel like my doctors are more likely to take me seriously when I tell them where I'm getting my information versus telling them I'm getting it from online naturopaths (nothing against naturopaths, but I don't know if my antibiotic prescribing doctors will take them so seriously).

Imformative
This is a very informative, easy to read book. It has helped me immensely to sort out my gut issues.

Good Concise Information on Conditions and Diagnostics; Poor misguided info on Diet
I actually really liked the information in this book on the conditions, pathology, testing and medical treatment. I was initially thrown by how small the book is but it is the most concise and informative book out there on each condition, diagnostics and medical management that one should read. The author completely missed the mark on available diets out there to assist with healing. He had poor knowledge and missed information especially on the Low FODMAP diet which has the most research on why certain foods are not tolerable by the small intestine leading to a disease process. From his reference to each diet he clearly shows that he has not really researched each diet but blows them off on possibly on one or two journal articles he may have read. His concept of a 'Low Fermentation Eating' plan is a very basic skimming of the concept of the Low FODMAP diet, SCD and other diets out there. The entire basis of the Low FODMAP diet is about low fermentation eating in a very researched approach. The diet is actually still very well rounded allowing you to eat each food group without eliminating one entirely. The diet actually helped me eat fruits, vegetables and some grains that I have never incorporated before into my own diet. This is the reason the book gets 3-4 stars and not 5. Had the opinion been left out about diets and his very basic program he suggests -the book would have been 5 stars.

One of the best book I have read on the subject.
Easy to read and follow is how I describe this book. I bought a copy for the library.

Dr. Pimentel is The Best!
From possibly the current leading researcher on SIBO in the world, this book is required reading for anyone suffering from or treating SIBO! Also, look him up on the Internet. He does podcasts and other events. His research is constantly improving the state of knowledge. If there is any shortcoming with this book, it's that some of it has already become outdated - by his own research.Required reading!

Great info on ongoing research re: IBS and SIBO
There is a lot of new data here and much to consider in unraveling ones own condition and the options for treatment. I'd give the book a 4+ but I am HUGELY ANNOYED that there is NO INDEX. A book on such complex issues and meant for the general public requires one. Finding and rereading about specific issues is as difficult as marching in mud.

A must for SIFO, SIBO and similar sufferers.
Dr Mark Pimentel is, I'm fairly certain, well known to many SIFO, SIBO, IMO etc sufferers. This book brings us up-to-date with his and his colleagues progress on their work with these conditions. One of the aspects of the book I like is the honesty about what knowledge and understanding is still missing. There has been great strides forward, over a relatively short number of years, in the understanding of the microbiome, still much to be discovered and still work to be done getting acceptance of the knowledge amongst health professionals.
