Wish the bags were bigger but overall happy with it!!
Cannot see the valls in photo they are at the bottom for drainage Exactly what I was looking for! Worked so well in my terrarium as part of the substrate would definitely recommend/buy again whether for plants or bioactive terrarium

Worth it!
Does what its supposed to! One bag is perfect for a 12x12x18. No smells or dust, nice and hardy, not delicate. With this and the Biodude soil I am excited to see how my terrarium does

Perfect drainage layer.
This drainage layer has really made a difference. When I tried to go bioactive without a drainage layer I got bugs and my plants died because of moist build up. When I gave it a drainage layer wow it impacted my enclosure and made it so no bugs and my plant flourish.

They are miniature size!
Well...They are clay balls.. they are just much smaller than expected. As most leca (expanded clay balls) are typically the same size with their usual variations in shape or minimal size differences...these were like a mini version. Since there was no photo or written description noting this, I was just expecting the typical size. Hence my ding of a star. If you don't know this brand or haven't previously used this, there's no way to know it is not the standard size one would expect. So these will still work for my need as an additive in my plant substrate, some may need the standard size leca, so please be aware this is a miniature version. Though they are good quality and color, there are some small sharp shreds of broken bits, so be careful when handling. And there are some misshapen peices that are lumpy or awkward, not uniform balls. But they are great for any exo drainage or plant needs. I don't see how these would cause any issues for functionality.

Work great
Works great for what I have been using them for a little too great actually bc after a while of using them I had to stop because they dried out my tank too fast. If you have a big tank though and need to try to keep the moisture down I’d definitely recommend using them tho

Nice size for orchid medium
I bought Zoo Med HydroBalls to use to re-root a phalaenopsis orchid. Other reviewers have commented on the importance of rinsing these well—they are absolutely right. These carry an astonishing amount of dust with them. Mine arrived in good condition with no crushed bits. The amount of media you get for the price is excellent (but check with your local pet store if you typically pay shipping on Amazon.com orders—you may be able to get them for a similar price). I have been using these for a couple of weeks, so I can't comment on their durability. What I especially liked about these HydroBalls was their size. They are about 1cm in diameter, or 3/8". The last time I bought clay spheres, they were between 1/2" and 5/8" (which is good if you need more aeration). For my situation, the smaller sphere size is ideal. I think these will retain a bit more water in the winter, when it is very dry and my orchids typically struggle. The HydroBalls mixed well with some of the usual orchid potting medium. Note these will also work well for you if you're developing a comedy routine, but you're out of banana peels. If (when) you spill some, make sure you find them with your eyes instead of your feet.

Great Drainage Layer for Terrariums
These HydroBalls are a great base layer for terrariums. I use them under substrate to create drainage, and they really help keep excess water away from the main soil layer while still maintaining the right humidity levels. They’re lightweight, easy to rinse before use, and spread evenly across the bottom of a tank. They also work well with a mesh layer on top to keep soil from mixing in, and I’ve noticed the difference in keeping the enclosure cleaner and healthier for my reptiles. The 2.5 lb bag doesn’t go super far if you have a large tank, but for smaller terrariums or as a starter it works well. Overall, they do exactly what they’re meant to and are a simple, effective way to improve drainage in naturalistic or bioactive setups.

Great product but not a very big bad.
Just about covered the base of a 30x30cm floor space tank with a 2inch layer. If you tank is larger then you will need another bag! In terms of functionality its great! Holds the water where you want it.
