Maxxima 11 Watt 6"-Inch Rotatable 950 Lumens LED Retrofit Downlight Gimbal Warm White 2700k Dimmable, Energy Star

The Good: This gimbal downlight is VERY bright. I underestimated how much illumination 950 lumens provides. It is also VERY easy to install in a compatible existing housing can.The Bad: The diameter of the Maxxima is slightly less than standard Halo 6" retrofit kits. As such, the Maxxima MAY not completely cover the opening in the ceiling, and there's no simple way to overcome that.The YMMV: I tried to use two of these in existing Halo H7 housings. Because the V-Springs are shorter than the V-springs I normally see on these types of lights, neither unit would mount flush against the ceiling. I had gaps of 1/8" to 1/4" all the way around between each fixture and the ceiling.FYI: The gimbal tilts 90 degrees. I thought that would be pretty cool, but the reality is that beyond a certain angle, the lighting is wasted. If you tilt it beyond 45 deg or so, the space is visible directly into whatever is above your ceiling.....meaning that you also unnecessarily create draft potential between attic space and your room. Also, the beam angle on these types of floodlights is usually over 80 degrees, so a gimbal tilt of 90 degrees doesn't appear to serve any functional purpose. At least it didn't in my situation (8-9 foot sloped ceiling).The product itself is a SOLID performer and easily installed. If it properly fits your recessed can, I think you'll like it. I just think it could have been designed a little better to accommodate more housings.

I've always wondered why stores sell either 2700K lights (too yellow) or 5000K lights (too white). The 4000K neutral white provided by Maxxima is PERFECT in my opinion. It gives a natural look that does not make everything look antiseptic like under flourescent lights and does not make everything look too yellow as if we are still lighting our houses with torches.Also, the installation was super easy. it took literally 5 minutes and everything came together perfectly. The rotational adjustment for the gimbal light is not the smoothest but I don't need to adjust it often. Once I figured out where I want the light to be rotated, I don't plan on adjusting it further.The tilt adjustment is awesome. It seems to provide more tilt than all the other gimbals I've seen online and in stores. This one goes to about 45 degrees whereas the other brands can get to about 30 degrees. This makes the Maxxima more flexible in lighting up a wall of art and display figures in my office.Best thing is, these happened to also be among the cheapest sold on Amazon. Great deal and great product!

Works as advertised and easy to install using the included instructions. As noted in other reviews, the light will rotate, but the line along which it will rotate depends on the location of the torsion spring brackets inside the already-installed recessed housing so it is a matter of luck that the light will point in a desired direction. Another small issue is that the light will not fit quite as flush against the ceiling as I would like. The 11W/4000K light is a lot brighter than the 65W incandescent floodlight that it replaced. I am so impressed with these lights that I have ordered additional led retrofits for the rest of my recessed light fixtures but the additional lights will be fixed and not rotatable.

Great price and easy to install

The surround is metal, not plastic, so it's heavier than many of the LED retrofit lights I've installed. It fits flush with the ceiling which has been an issue with other lights. It is NOT a sealed unit, there is a gap above the gimbal that is open into the can above. I had to seal the can with calk. The light is slightly more yellow than other 2700K LEDs I have used but I still like the light. It's a little dimmer than 750 lumens but I'm happy about that as I wanted a less bright light for the area and this was the dimmest I could find. I am planning to install a dimmer. When the gimbal is all the way tilted you can see up inside the can and the gimbal is not round so it doesn't look the best but it's great for the price. Also, there is another review that says they couldn't get it to rotate. I had some difficulty getting mine to rotate far enough, took a few minutes of moving it around but eventually mine did rotate fully and I was able to point the light in the direction I needed it. Overall I'm pretty happy with it for the price.

I've got 18 of these in my house now, and couldn't be happier with them. I've got 12 in four closets, which replaced four old, frumpy, dim single lights. The closets now have fantastic illumination. The other six are in two dormers, three each, where they replaced similarly boring, old, unexciting ceiling lights.They are super-easy to install, with clear instructions. Even an amateur can get them in and get them working in no time.The price of just about $17 each is very reasonable.They ship quickly; mine arrived in less than three days.

Light worked out perfectly after I figured out how to get full rotation. The basic problem was that rotational mechanism was paint stuck to the frame limiting rotation of the light. By twisting the inner fixture with a great deal of force I broke the paint bond and got full rotation. Manufacturer should check the rotational feature before they box them up for shipment.

These lights fit perfectly into existing 6 inch pot lights. No wiring hassles as the new light’s wiring easily screws into the existing wiring. The lights look great and are dimmable.The delivery did take longer than anticipated but when they arrived I was very happy with them and had both installed within minutes.

As expected

Pros: Liked the idea alot. Color a bit cold but not overly harsh. Plus works with a dimmer. Looks good considering cost.Cons: The springs aren't evenly placed, took forever to try and place it over the hole without gap showing, the spring snaps out of the hole, the swivel is not a gimbal, only back and forth. It means if you want to direct the light there is only one way you can put the light in the hole - so can be very difficult it you have larger hole to actually fully hide the hole. I got it almost perfect with one small gap showing but don't dare trying to adjust further because that took me along time to achieve. I also can't get the angle I want because if you rotate further you see a gap in light itself.Overall still way better than what I had before. Just wish springs worked better and had a bit more swivel range.
