WOW, the series keeps taking me to unexpected places - surprisingly high-quality writing and plotting
The series keeps getting more compelling. I don't know how the author keeps finding new ways of upping the ante on these books and making them more suspenseful without it feeling contrived, but she has been very successful. As soon as I get one of these I curl up with it and don't want to put it down until I have finished, and this was no exception. In this book, Reed is forced to deal with the fallout of the Legacy party, and Billings looks like it will be shut down. Reed can't let that happen on her watch, and the Billings Girls come up with a plan. Of course, there is other fallout from Legacy, and Reed has to deal with the loss of her boyfriend and the knowledge that she betrayed Noelle. It becomes clear that someone is out to get Billings House, and that person will stop at nothing. Of course, Noelle and the Billings girls are equally determined. This was excellent from start to finish, and if you have been reading these books, I am sure you don't need me to tell you to go out and get this one - you are probably already as addicted as I am.

Just OK.
This maybe my least favorite in the Private series. This one also dragged a bit. I whizzed through all these books and adored the series but certain installments were better than others. With Ambition certain key characters were not featured and it was all about saving Billings which was a bit dull. That isn't to say it was BAD. But I had high hopes and this one did not meet them.I am still recommending the series, (which I see many of my GR friends have read) because it is just pure fun. Ambition was one of the more slow moving ones but the series as a whole is still awesome!

The unputdownable drama continues...
In Legacy, Easton Academy's oldest building burned down, and it was all the Billings girls' fault. After all, it wouldn't have happened had they not snuck out to crash the biggest party of the year. Which is why Cromwell, the new headmaster, has decided to shut down the Billings hall once and for all. As president at Billings, Reed Brennan cannot allow that to happen. So she makes a deal with Cromwell -- she will host a fundraiser to raise money for the school. Cromwell agrees, but on one condition: she has to raise five million dollars. And no, her multi-billionaire friends are not allowed to fork over the cash. So she sets her plans into action... or maybe Noelle is the one arranging everything. Is Noelle, control freak that she is, trying to outmaneuver Reed, making her seem incompetent in front of their friends? To make things worse, Josh is dating Ivy. Ivy, the mysterious Easton student who hates Billings more than life itself. At least they have THAT in common! To top it all off, Reed is still getting e-mails from Cheyenne, and now she's getting other things that had once belonged to her as well. Someone is messing with her, wants to drive her crazy, but who? And why? But not everything going on in Reed's life is bad. All of the men at Easton want to go out with her -- the president at Billings, the It girl of the moment. But all she really wants is Josh, or does she? After all, the thought of Dash and Noelle back together makes her physically ill...Once again, Kate Brian has outdone herself with another riveting installment of this entertaining teen series. There is more drama, more problems for Reed, and in this one she'll really see the trueness of Noelle's power and wrath. The only bad thing I can say about this installment is that I am not happy with the cliffhanger because it means I'll have to wait till September -- for the release of Revelation -- to find out what happens next. The story itself is readable from beginning to end, but there are those errors that bug me, like Brian's lack of continuity when it comes to the characters' physical appearance. It appears that Josh's eyes are now blue. Will they be green again in the next installment? I still have a hard time picturing many of the secondary characters because, with the exception of a few, their appearance changes with each new installment. And I'm not talking about a different shade of hair color. A character that had at first been described as olive-skinned and dark-eyed suddenly becomes a blue-eyed blonde, etc. I do hope Brian has a better grasp of her own characters in the future. Other than that, I LOVED this book. I think it's the best one since Untouchable and, as said before, I very much look forward to reading Revelation. Read this, but if you're new to it, you have to start from the very beginning, with Private. These are NOT good standalones.

Surprises and secrets continue to bloom at Easton Academy, but the Girls in Billings Hall should be used to the unexpected. After the death of Cheyenne Martin, the Billings' Girls are continuing to recuperate and move on with their lives. Their first mission was to elect their newest president and it's no surprise that Reed is the chosen one. From the death of Thomas to discovering what some of the girls at Billings are really like, Reed is just the choice, since she does know how to handle what gets thrown at her. Of course, whenever you are at the top, there is someone to bring you down. You don't have to wait too long for trouble to surround Billings Hall. The death of Cheyenne has not been solved and the police want to get all the answers they can. The interrogation happens when the girls are planning a special event that will help them get on the headmaster's good side. Even though she is Josh-less, Reed isn't finding it too hard to find a date. Choosing one can be a little difficult, since she needs someone who can grab Josh's attention and his emotions. Her feelings for Josh have not yet evaporated, especially since he is one of the reasons why she came back to Easton. And her little incident with Dash is still under wraps, but as we all know, nothing stays a secret forever. It's up to Reed to figure everything out and make things better. But if all of her secrets are revealed, and the ones she can turn to are betrayed, once she finds the answer to all of the problems, it may well be that no one will be there to help her get through it. Let's just hope Reed can fight these next obstacles before she gets knocked off her high horse. As always, Kate Brian does a fantastic job continuing the series with even more suspense and fresh story lines. Reed continues to be a strong character and the Billings' Girls continue to be scandalous. With an ending that will make your jaw drop, fans of the previous novels will be satisfied with this next installment, and still yearn for more.Reviewed by: Randstostipher "tallnlankyrn" Nguyen
