Just started
Just started the book and will read another chapter. Had to comment on the milking, hanging bucket of milk under wagon and serving butter that same day. The author evidently has no concept of how you get butter. A little research goes a long way.

a special Story
Great Story!! this is book 2 in the Thanksgiving Books & Blessings Collection . Makes a great stand alone book to listen to or read. Well written and the narrator was great. a book I would be proud to read with or in front of my grandchildren.Haley is a recent widow trying to find her brother and family. Malcom is a recent widower who is leading the wagon train. She gets him to hire her on as a cook for his wagon train, at least till she finds her brother. He believes that his family was killed by Indians, and he wants to find those guilty. Can Malcom and Haley help each other?I receive complimentary books for review from publishers, publicists, and/or authors. I am not required to write positive reviews. Well Developed Characters and Plot
Hayley Hunter, recently widowed, needs to join her brother and his family in order to survive this new country she finds herself in. With that in mind, she convinces long-time widower and trail master, Malcom Wheeler, to allow her to be the cook, at least until she can join up with her brother and family along the trail.Susette Williams packs a lot into her 91-page novella. I was amazed at how well the characters were developed, how well the story flowed and the strength of the plot. Novellas, by virtue of their abbreviated length, are sometimes tricky. Gateway to the West includes romance, hope, tragedy, faith and fourberie. An author needs to pack a lot of story into a very small package, and Susette excels with Gateway to the West! Each story in the Thanksgiving Books & Blessings Collection is a stand-alone. In addition, some are novellas, and some are full-length novels.

Interesting story
I enjoyed this short book, but I was surprised little of the trail was spoken about. I was a bit confused when they were back in Missouri. Overran interesting story, but I've got a few questions that I feel should have been answered in the book.
