I've been using this for about two weeks and love it as a shampoo. I keep it in a spice shaker in the shower, wet my hair, and then dump some onto different parts of my head and rub it in. I let it sit for a couple minutes, and then rub it around some more and rinse. I got this because I had awful dry scalp this winter, and even my usual shampoo (Rahua volumising) was getting too drying. This definitely solves the problem and doesn't leave my hair greasy either. It doesn't have any smell, so I usually use conditioner before or after using this just for the smell. I find that you don't actually need conditioner while using this, though. I love how it's cheap too. I may be a permanent convert!!

I am Caucasian with thin/fine hair and really enjoy using this product as a "shampoo". I went from shampooing every 2 days to shampooing every 5 days! Oil is NOT necessary for this product to work (I have used shakakai on its own and it works fine!) but I find my hair to be much more shiny and voluminous when I oil it before hand! Routine: The night before I have to shampoo, I oil my scalp and hair with a castor/coconut oil mix (although you can use any preferred oil) and I sleep with the oil in my hair. When I wake I make a paste of shakakai and rub it into my scalp and leave that on for as long as I can. Before I rinse, I condition my ends to help get the oil out. If you're not using conditioner, apple cider vinegar works too, just make sure to wash shakakai out before the ACV rinse.

So someone on tiktok recommended this a while ago and I finally got around to actually getting it. They say this and be used in replacement of a shampoo. So far I've used this twice and it definitely does clean your hair, however I would say it's more like a clarifying shampoo and a regular shampoo so I wouldn't recommend using it often if you do have a hair type that does need cleaning every couple of days. I have like 3C-4A hair texture so my hair type does not need to be washed every couple of days so I could see myself using this as I clarifying shampoo for when I do take down my protective styles. I really like it and I did fix it with hibiscus powder as well I really liked it did a really great job. It DOES take longer to clean out of your hair though! At least for the curly girls. I would recommend for sure. However with other people saying that they did have a skin reaction I would highly recommend doing a skin patch test before diving in fully.

My first experience with shikakai. It works wonderfully. Every time I use it my hair get so much volume, they feel and look stronger and someone even told me that my hair grew a lot. It feels little bit like washing your hair with coffee grinds but the smell reminds me of something sweet :) It does not foam so you might feel like your hair are not being washed properly. It also wont feel like it when you touch them in the shower. But once you dry them you will love it. It is a good idea to oil your hair before using shikakai, you will see a difference. One more thing, be very, very careful not to get it in your eye. It burns!

I've never written a review on Amazon before. Frankly, I've never been so pleased with a product I've ordered before either. I saw a blog entry in passing about how great this product was, so I decided it was worth a try (especially considering how inexpensive it is). I have very dry, fine and brittle hair. I've been self conscious of my hair for the last few years, so I've been trying everything to stimulate hair growth. I have started using Shikakai powder once a week, and I don't know how I would go on without it now. My hair feels soft and healthy just after letting the paste set in my hair for 15 minutes. I have always struggled to give my hair a good clean, and this product rejuvenated my scalp in a way I never thought possible.

Amazing Ayurveda product. Only three days and I have no itching due to dermatitis in my scalp. I highly recommended for those with sensitive skin and issues with regular shampoos. It leaves hair and scalp super clean and fresh. Lovely berry scent.

New review: After a couple years of using, I had extreme hair loss. Still trying to recover from it. One year later and I still have thin hair. I would not buy ever again. Old review: I have long straight hair and I take good care of it. However, I had been trying to find a product to wash my hair and leave it moisturized. After a long time, I finally found the product I wished for. With Shikakai, I make a paste and make sure it is well distributed all over my scalp. I leave it for a few minutes and then rinse well. It does not lather, but it definitely washes my hair very good. My hair has such an amazing shine every time I use Shikakai! I never straighten my hair, but this product makes my hair sooo straight and silky. My hair feels so soft immediately after showering, and best of all, my hair feels clean. I just love how well it cleans my hair and leaves it conditioned!

I got this powder because traditional shampoos and conditioners were making my head itch. Needless to say, my head still itched after using this, but I did somewhat like using it. My problem with this powder was the mess and it doesn't get a lot of the oils out of my hair. I could see someone who washed their hair everyday benefiting from this. I don't wash my hair everyday (as you shouldn't) so when I went to use this my hair was still greasy. I also felt like my ends were getting too dry with this and had to use a condition anyways. I ended up using regular shampoo and conditioner and adding 15 or so drops of tea tree oil to them. My head feels much better.
