Elgin Prewar Klunker headset
I purchased this for a klunker build - a prewar Elgin frame. In retrospect, I should have measured the old headset, but I did some research and took a leap after reading other reviews here. I pressed the races this morning and it fits really well. The polished silver is a big mood-enhancer over the years-of-grime-headset that was there before - it looks great! I purchased the 21.1 x 32.5 x 27.0 headset.

It works
If you have a bike that has/had a threaded fork assembly, this works just fine. I installed a Threadless set up on a Harper single speed with a carbon fork. After I purchased another Harper Plus which has a Threadless set up from Retrospec, I found that the carbon fork I had installed when I converted over on the Harper, does not seem to be an added benefit to the steel frame, I converted it back over to the original fork which luckily I held onto. However, I either misplaced or threw away the original threaded headset, so I purchased this one and without a doubt, the steel fork is better on a steel frame then the carbon fork.

good value
fit a 1986 GT im redoing and works as expected, it was a little thinner than I wanted but for what it is , its a great value and looks nice on the bike. I'm adding a pic bit i dont have the forks cut yet so the top cap is not mounted yet. The seat rails were black so this headset brought it together , I purchased the bottom bracket in black as well from Amazon from the same maker.

Fit well, looks nice
I bought this to go along with a Sunlite fork, and the two paired like peas and carrots! It fit my Raleigh Grand Prix frame very well, and mated to the fork perfectly. It looks pretty nice for an inexpensive headset, especially compared to the 40 year old corroded headset that was on the bike originally. Install instructions were a little lacking, but with a little intuition and some Youtube how-to videos, it was not a difficult job. My only complain about this headset is that it does not have any type of seal for either the upper or lower bearings, allowing for easy water intrusion. I use shorty fenders on my bike, which should almost eliminate this problem, but it would require pretty frequent service otherwise. Other than that detail, this is a great headset, and is a great deal compared to what the name brand units cost at the LBS.

Works Great!
This is a pretty good headset. They only downside is that the bearing cage only holds 16 bearings, which is pretty low compared to what I see looking around, most are 18 - 22 bearings. The bearings are 5/32nd size bearings. Easy to fix this by going loose ball. I had a heck of a time with installation because I didn't know that the cups that insert into the tube are different, I thought they were the same. I accidentally swapped them and it won't work this way. I finally figured it out and got the bottom on the bottom and the top on the top. Works great now.

replacement part
I bought this 1" threaded headset for a 47 year old frame that no longer has any of its original componets. The original headset was missing a couple of its bearings and the races were pitted. This headset was offered as a package deal with a new fork which the bike also needed. That is how I aquired it. The fact of the matter is though, that because it is steel it is faily smooth and was really easy to install compared to other high-end ones I've done. It isn't top of the line at all. But, for my 47 year old commuter, it'll do.

Very nice.
I used this to replace a standard 1" steel headset. Not only does it look much better than the original (the kind with gaps in them that let all the water and dirt in your bearings) but it is silky smooth as well. I did have to keep the original race for the fork crown as the one with this set was too small to ever fit on the forks, but the original looked exactly the same and was in good shape. The inner hole was just a micrometer bigger or so (I could not tell with my eyes but it had to be). I could have just had an odd fork but you might want to keep that in mind.
