Can I carry this off and use this in other rooms or does it have to stay near the base?

Yes, you can use it far away from the base. The base just charges the battery while the Everybot is sitting on it. There is battery charge indicator light on the top of the Everybot. The battery charge light will indicate when the charge is getting low. Doesn't have anything to do with proximity to the base.
