Think of this as an expanded/expansive Owners Manual
Good to have as an addition to an owners manual. These reference/repair manuals haven't improved sine I first used them decades ago.The images are B & W but seem not as grainy in the past, probably from not using the newsprint quality paper of the past. The technical drawings are clear and well done. However, some images are too small to be all that useful and they still need to lighten the images up. Why are they so dark, so often? A little professional lighting goes a long way, and it would eliminate the reflective glare when glass is included in the image. For the above 100% correctable omissions (to be fair, this baffling practice is also included in manufacturers service manuals) and the remaining need to clarify the images with proper lighting, I bump this down two stars.I am not saying mechanics never reference these books, but these are really made more for the 'shade tree' do-it-yourself-er types than Professional mechanics. So Haynes/Chilton should work on making these more of an easy or quick reference guideHowever, I'd still recommend this as use as an 'expanded' supplement to any Owners Manual, though it does not replace one. I habitually purchase a Haynes/Chilton manual for every vehicle I own. If it comes in handy as little as once, it is worth the cost to have this handy, and it doesn't require a signal or batteries. It even goes into basics about body work; filling dents and repair of rust holes and replacing window motors. There is some very practical information in these manuals for the home maintenance inclined. It's a shame that Chilton and Haynes are now one and the same company. Competition is the best proponent of improvement and innovation. In this venue, the only thing worse was when a used car consortium bought Kelly's Blue Book. It used to be a real survey of actual prices paid for used vehicles, now it is a marketing tool to keep used car prices artificially high.Back to Haynes/Chilton manuals. They squeeze in similar models which I find distracting and in the way. I do wish they'd include more specifics: like the type of specific bulbs in the dash, for example. Cross reference charts would be great, but simply listing the OEM part would be sufficient.Another annoying trait in auto manuals is they will say "See section 21". Would it cost too much in ink to put a page number? Nowhere in the index or Table of contents says anything about a "Section 21". Is that like Area 51?Instead of being helpful, the inherent stupidity of referencing a section that is not noted anywhere else is the opposite of the concept of a manual created to assist the Owner - whom this is primarily for, get the information that they need.

These manuals are better than alldata. You don't need internet and wont feel bad when you get greasy fingerprints all over it. It has torque specs and helped me change the timing belt and water pump.

great manual
I don't know what the other reviewer got but what I got is a very detailed and very well explained repair manual. It the information is very accurate for my 2003 Toyota Tundra. While yes there are some repairs you could easily do at home that ain't in there I'd expect they're still pretty advanced for someone looking to start saving money doing their own repairs instead of paying hundreds to have someone else do it. I'd recommend this to beginners up to advanced DIYers for most of the basic to intermediate repairs. You do need a basic understanding of what everything is and what it does to understand what some of the pictures are and what to do but other than that its very easy to understand what you need to do and how to do it.

Never go anywhere without one!
Novice like me can read, understand and do based off this book. I always buy one for my vehicles and love having them stored in the vehicle just in case something breaks.

Wonderful gift idea for him
My man likes to work on his own vehicles - when I found out he was going to pay $40 for this at a local auto store, I bought it for him on here for more than half that price.Update 10/2015: We own several Haynes Manuals for our other vehicles and buy them for our boys every time they get a new vehicle. This is our go to gift for relatives when new vehicle is purchased. They all keep them (usually) in the trunk and refer to them often.Well worth it

I would have rated it higher if not for the poor paper quality and the lo res
Pictures are low resolution as is the typography, however, the frustration and money it has saved me is way beyond the price. I would have rated it higher if not for the poor paper quality and the lo res, as noted.
