These transfer pencils work very well
These pencils feel exactly like Prismacolors in the way they apply to paper. First draw out your design with a regular pencil the exact size you want on filler paper or any other thinnish paper. Next, flip it over and tape it onto any window where it's sunny. Now trace over the design (it will appear backwards) with this transfer pencil. Just go over it with one pass lightly for now. Remove tape and return to your desk or table and place your design, again face down, on the table. Now, using the pencil, go back over your lines you traced several more times to build up a nice heavy (not necessarily thick) line. I went over each line in my lettering about five times and pressed only moderately hard each time so as not to break the point. It does build layers. You can sharpen the pencil with an x-acto knife if you need to refine the point. Once you have a good heavy line place the design with the red line side face down on the item you are going to transfer the design onto. Now your original pencil lines should be face up and the design should appear normal. Pin in place around edges and re-measure just to make sure the design is exactly where you want it. Now using a dry iron, place iron on the design, or on portions of it. About 20 seconds does the trick; use the iron several times over each area. It works better if you place the iron down rather than sliding it around, to prevent the paper from possibly sliding around. You can peek under one corner to see if it has transferred OK. Then remove pins (they might still be hot, so careful!) and lift up design. Your pattern should be transferred. Now I am ready to embroider. My dish towel will say, "Alexa, wash the dishes."

Test first
I had no problems sharpening these pencils and they worked well to mark the fabric. Make sure you test. I can not remove the markings out and I’ve tried everything under the kitchen sink. 100% cotton fabric. I will continue to use them, but will be very careful not to over mark.

Must have for embroidery designs
I appreciate these transfer pencils! They do just what they should. I use for embroidery projects. After tracing my design I can iron on and get to stitching. They seem to wash away with water when the project is completed. These are a "must have" tool for me.

Works but limited
Does not work for fine detail as it has to be drawn heavy. Doesn't work for denim or dark colors.

Great product!! Here are some tips for use. :)
I had noticed on some of the 1-star reviews that people were saying the lead in the pencils runs out too fast/breaks too easy/ doesnt sharpen well and I wanted to address that. The lead in these feels similar to that of a Prismacolor pencil, you cant press hard or it will eat your pencil up. You gotta be patient and press lightly, go over it repeatedly until its as dark as you'd like. That being said, these are wonderful for their purpose! I wouldnt reccomend them if you expect super fine lines on transfer, as it melts to the shirt and thickens just a bit. But if you've got even a shred of artistic ability, you can go over it with your paint the thickness that you'd like and just wash the excess red away! You want to use a handheld non-electric sharpener for these, or the lead crumbles. When you sharpen, make sure to move ONLY the sharpener while holding the pencil steady in the other hand. (This is because we tend to unintentionally wobble the pencil around when we move it instead of the sharpener, causing uneven sharpening and breakage). Happy tracing, everyone!! 😄

transfers an embroidery pattern to a lighter fabric with ease
I'm usingthe tracing paper Aunt Martha's recommends for these pencils. i just slip my pattern under the tracing paper and folloe the lines withnthese pencils. place the traced pattern on yoy fabric and iron it on. i don't recommend ironing back and forth, just hold the iron inplace for a few seconds and take a quick look under the tracing paper to make sure the transfer is leaving a dark pattern. replace the tracing paper exactly on fabric to reduce risk of smudging. The dark line is permanent seen on fabricis permanrnt, itdoes not wash away, so be careful and trace with a light touch, enough to see the pattern outline. I use this for embroidery so if I'm careful my stitching will cover any black lines It's essential to practise on a scrap fabric until you get the result you want. I like using these pencils

Generally quite ok with the transfer pencil.
Item arrived sooner than I expected. Tested and it works well when transferring from tracing paper. Have yet to try to iron on the tracing. However, the tip of the pencil broke upon arrival but it's ok

Overally good
It's ok. You have to press really hard and there's no way of removing the ink from the fabric, so you can see it on some of your finished embroideries.
