Best Of Crystal Gayle, The

I have listened to Crystal Gayle for many years and have always enjoyed her music. Her style is very different from her sister, Loretta Lynn, and is always great. Although a lot of her music is sad love songs they still touch a special cord about life. I wish she would release some new material as it has been a while since she has done anything new.

I'm not a true "country music" lover but, I do like a few and I have searched for this particular CD for a long time.Crystal Gayle is the type of country music artist that crosses the "country music" label for a wider range of music lovers.For people who think that they don't like "country music," I would recommend this or any other CD by Crystal Gayle.

In the "Best of Crystal Gayle", she sings a variety of Country songs, with the clear, smooth, soothing voice of an angel. The songs are timeless, offering both upbeat & relaxing music. You don't have to be a fan of Country Music to enjoy this CD.

51年1月生まれのBrenda Gail Webbは70年に姉でありカントリー・スターのLoretta Lynnが所属するDECCAレコードからデビューするに当たり、同レーベルの先輩であるBrenda Leeとの混同を避け、ハンバーガー・チェーンのKrystalとミドル・ネームからCrystal Gayleに改名した。（ホッ本当か？）　　１stシングルI’ve Criedがカントリー・チャートで28位となった以降はパッとせず、74年のUNITED ARTISTS移籍後から波に乗り出し、76年のI’ll Get Over Youではカントリーで1位となった。　77年にはジャズ風味の本CD#1（邦題：瞳のささやき）の大ヒット（c&w1位、pop2位）により、グラミーでベスト女性カントリー・ヴォーカルを受賞し、アルバムWe Must Believe In Magic（邦題：水晶の恋人）は女性カントリー歌手で初のミリオン・セラーとなった。　その後もCOLUMBIA、ELEKTRA、WARNER Bros.とレーベルを移りながらヒットを連発することとなる。（カントリー・チャートで18曲の1位）　本CDは復刻に定評のある米国RHINO編集のベストであるが、WARNER傘下のため選曲が後期に偏っているのは仕方ないとして、DECCA音源やTalking In Your Sleep（78年c&w1位、pop18位）とHalf The Way（79年c&w2位、pop15位）が未収録なのはチョッと残念。　とは言えELEKTRAとWARNER Bros.でのカントリーTOP10ヒット14曲全てを収録したのはスゴイことで（うち9曲が1位）、全体の印象は風情のあるカントリーと言うよりは洗練されたAORで統一されており、音質も秀逸で文字通りクリスタル・ヴォイスを堪能できる。
