Broken case
We bought this but wasn't expected to get what we got. The case was broken and finger prints on a couple of disks.

Lied About Spanish Language Track
I love MONK, and the discs are fine. I haven't seen all of them yet. BUT I bought this particular Complete Set (even though I didn't actually want Widescreen), because Widescreen was the only one that promised three languages. My plan was to send it to my former housemates in Nicaragua when I was finished watching. So imagine my surprise when I discovered that ONLY season one comes with a spanish track!AAAAH. The others come with optional subtitles in Spanish and French, but that is obviously not the same.I'm not going to send this back, because I can't find any others that have a Spanish language track. And if I DO find one on Amazon, I will not trust it.

A classic that remains watchable after all these years
My daughter and I were watching this and she kept looking at me. No comments - just quick looks. I think she caught the familiarity...If you like wacky comedies like Psych, you will like this show (the Psych pilot episode is on this DVD set). Monk is one of the most interesting and likable characters ever. The phrases he uses when speaking to people is hilarious. The other characters fit together so well. I was so sad when this show ended after eight seasons, but that is a pretty good run.I wish this were cleaned up a bit and on Blu-ray because the quality is not too good. I suspect this show may not have even been filmed in that high of a resolution or with digital audio at any point in the series. This was the case with the first few seasons of Doctor Who, however, they later released Blu-rays and they did something to make them look much better than the DVDs. Another thing that made me suspect the show was not filmed in too high of a resolution was that there was only a single stereo audio track. The alternative is that the studio didn't put much effort into the quality of the release on disc and not bother to later release it on Blu-ray.The show is still quite funny and enjoyable without HD or 5.1 digital audio. I did not hesitate to buy this on DVD because the price was low compared to some other series.

Natalie or Sharona
I've watched the whole series of Monk - admittedly not in one sitting. It is a thoroughly delightful series by the end of which you may find yourself taking on some of the quirks affecting Monk himself.I have also, over the years, enjoyed series such as 'Murder She Wrote', and 'Matlock' to name a couple. The series of Monk runs somewhat along this line as light drama mixed with elements of humour. I don't need the shocking realities of sex, violence and depravity. It's not what I'm looking for and Monk filled the bill.I started watching Monk somewhere around season 6 or 7 and upon finding I liked it - I ordered the whole series from Amazon. With, I might add, no regrets. Everything came nicely packaged and worked perfectly. My one pet peeve - I can't stand Natalie. I didn't even realize there was anyone besides her as Monk's assistant. Obtuse, self-centered with the will of a doormat. Her character could have been filled by a 14 year old valley girl (which may be a discredit to valley girls).Once I started watching the beginning of the series I saw that Monk had another assistant Sharona. OMG, what a difference. I know that when she left midway through season 3 that it was with the mutual understanding of the producers and herself. But, questions have always been left as to the real reason. My thinking - she was becoming as popular as Monk himself. She had wit, humour, backbone and intelligence. So, to me, the best part of Monk was the first three and a half seasons.I'm not making judgement on the actresses playing the characters - just the characters themselves.I wonder what others think on this subject?

Wonderful
I previously had the first-four-seasons box-set, as it was my brothers. However, once he told me he was going to sell it; I looked up the last four seasons, so see price-wise, what I'd be out - if I gave my brother money for the first four, and then paid for the last four on Amazon. And, actually - it was cheaper/more cost-efficient to get the Complete Series. So much so, that my brother could've taken a hit in selling the first-four-box-set, if he wanted, and we still would've been okay, with what I spent on the Complete Series.I'm never truly sure if people are wanting these reviews for the 'shows', themselves, or if they're wanting the review of the product, the condition, etc.As far as the condition - I was very pleased. Just as well-made as the four-seasons, when we got that (when it first came out). It's a nice box/set, too. It's a great display piece, if nothing else. It takes up less room than the four-seasons, as well.As far as the show. Man, it's a great show. Honestly, I'm upset that it ended (due to Tony wanting to retire from the show). I would've been okay with another eight seasons, to be honest. Even if the episodes starting getting predictable (they had not gotten predictable, cliche, or 'usual'; at all during the eight seasons).. I still would've watched another eight seasons. I love the cast - excellent arrangement, even with the VERY FEW changes ('natural changes', and not just 'get rid of this character' changes); I loved every bit of them. Their characters were well-written, and EXCELLENTLY performed/executed - it all looked just so natural. And really, their characters added diversity to the actors' list of 'character types'. It's great.I love this show. And just love that I have all the seasons in one place (and cheaper than individual seasons).

APPALLING QUALITY. ALL DVDS JUMP/FREEZE/PIXELLATE! DO NOT BUY!
The Monk tv series is brilliant, funny and charming, not to mention the amazing acting skills of all the cast. BUT this Dvd box set is of the most APPALLINGLY POOR QUALITY, I cannot recommend it in any way. Each dvd contains 3 or 4 episodes and on this set every dvd had pixellation, jumps, freezes and distortion. It was mostly, or worse on episodes 2 & 3 on each dvd. Some were still watchable, but several were completely unwatchable or unplayable and the rest were bad enough to completely lose the thread of the story or ruin our enjoyment of the episode. Some dvds don't give the option to select episode, just play all as soon as they start. Some show subtitles automatically so you have to turn them off each time. We got to series 4 of 8 and decided we had to complain, even though it was out of the return window (30 days after purchase). The 2nd set was much better. BUT, although MUCH LESS than the first, it STILL PIXELLATED, DISTORTED & FROZE/JUMPED on several to many of the dvds. The OTHER ISSUE is the very poor way the dvds are arranged in the box. Several are piled on top of each other in groups, so that you have remove several dvds each time to get or replace the right dvd. The difficulty removing them risks bending them which will not help their longevity. ALL-IN-ALL this seems to be a VERY CHEAPLY PRODUCED, EXTREMELY POOR QUALITY BOX SET which WILL NOT PLAY WITHOUT JUMPS, STOPS & PIXELLATIONS. DO NOT BUY.Update: After two or three watchings, further dvds are starting to break down, pixellate/freeze/distort, so soon the whole set will be mostly unwatchable again. PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS SET. Have now bought an alternative set of (used) individually boxed series 1-8. Fingers crossed!...Further update...the used set just mentioned arrived in perfect condition, each series in its own case, easy to remove/replace cds without moving many others & has since been watched right through several times, NO ISSUES. About the same price as this one, also from Amazon. My advice, search further until, you find this alternative set, (produced 2002) & buy that instead of this one! We are very happy with it.

substantial improvements appear to have been made to quality and index
being a lover of MONK and after reading reviews that there was no way to identify episodes and of many breakages, it seems these have been heard as episodes are now clearly marked and there have been no problems playing this fascinating and original detective series SO FAR anyway ....i took a risk and when improvements have been made to a product it seems fair to tell others

Still funny to watch.
Thoroughly enjoying watching Monk again. Still as good as it was back in the day.Only disappointment, is some of the episodes have skipped, stuck, pixelated or gone out of sync. But not to the degree that they can't be watched.
